My body is imbalanced, left trap is way bigger than right..... why?

I noticed this today, why would this be?

Also my friend told me that his entire left part of his body is way bigger than his right.... like he has a 15 inch left arm and a 13.5 inch right arm.

That's just one example, it's totally imbalanced for him.

What's the deal with this? Any explanations?

I've read that when using a barbell, it is possible for one arm to pick up more of the load than the other. Do you incorporate dumbbells and unilateral exercises into your routine?

I rarely use dumbells or unilateral exercises, I do with biceps and triceps, shoulder shrugs... hmm not much else.

ok, first we need to determine if it really is the trap being bigger. If your left scapula is rotated more downward than your right, it can create the illusion that your left trap is bigger because the downward rotation kinda "pushes" the trap up.

Look at the posterior view one (posterior view is seeing it from the back)
The only way for any of us on the forum to be able to determine that would be if you took pics, one from each side and perhaps one from the back too.
If you think you have that or want to learn more about that, go to TESTOSTERONE NATION | World's Largest Bodybuilding and Weight Loss Underground Nation and find the article "face pulls push ups and shrugs" or something like that :p

If your left trap is bigger than your right, I guess doing DB shrugs could help and just make sure you use both traps equally on all exercises

Do you use a mixed grip for any lifts? the position could have something to do with it since different hand position causes different impact on the back. I doubt it would do a lot, but it is a theory.

hmm!

Maybe it has something to do with how I deadlift. My right hand is always supinated.

maybe I should switch that grip for a while and see what happens. I will take some pics too and see...

When I do the deadlift, I use both hands as an overhand grip. If you have one underhand and one overhand and always do the same hand UH and same hand OH, an imbalance will create if I am understanding this thread correctly.
