Consistency. It's not a pizza topping.

fiber supplement? Why not just eat delicious flax seed eh? Way better for you and full of fat and fiber.

What are your percentages of protein/carbs/fats? If you are eating all of that lean meat it might take you a long time to get into ketosis. Protein is only 58% ketogenic, compared to fat which is if I remember correctly 95%. Meaning that 42% of protein is converted to glucose, and 5% of fat is.

Yeah, I think it took me three days before I pinched a deuce on keto. Don't worry... that kind of food is low refuse.

You ARE keeping track of your macros and stuff right? Let's hear it brah :beerchug:

Edit: When I said 20g of carbs during induction keep in mind that is AFTER FIBER. Really not that hard to do.

Oh, hmm. Good point on the flax seed, there. I'll have the roomie grab me some milled stuff. I just don't really know what to do with it. Mix it in water and drink it? Haha.

Well, yesterday I was at 35% protein, 60% fat, 5% carb. Today I'm at 36% protein, 61% fat and 3% carb. I'm using a program and some spreadsheets. I track literally everything. :p

Are you saying this is too much protein? Cause, uhh, I could eat more bacon. I haven't actually been eating much lean meat at all. I'm just saying that in the future I'd like to, and compensate by eating super fatty pork like bacon and using lots of coconut oil and whatnot to cook with. Beef fat just tastes terrible to me. I guess I could get over it, but I'd rather not. I can probably do fried chicken, but not a big fan of the skin at all.

Also I just pooped, so no worries on that front. :D

I like golden flax seed... I eat that stuff right out of the bag by the spoonful... nothing added, it's delicious.

When making my flax bread I eat some of the batter and that is especially delicious...

Those ratios look good to me. Some people that I have talked to suggest going as high as 75% fat during induction to really get you into ketosis fast. That definitely works, after my carb ups I usually ate 70-75% fat and I was back into ketosis in around 12 hours.

It's really up to you, though. What you are doing now looks great. 60% fat, 35% protein, and 5% carbs is the typical ketogenic diet... but that is usually for people who are past induction.

Over the past two weeks I have averaged 66% fat 29% protein and 5% carbs.

Also a useful piece of info from lyle mcdonald's book "the ketogenic diet"

"To summarize, without factoring in activity, a protein intake of
at least 1.75 grams of protein/kilogram lean body mass or a minimum of 150 grams per day are
necessary to prevent nitrogen losses during the initial stages of a ketogenic diet."

Hmm, okay. Then I guess I'm fairly on target. Like I said, will clean up the carbs to almost nothing. I guess I'll have to chew on some celery and eat some flax for fiber.

I'm not sure I can get up to 75% fat right now, but I'll try. I mean it won't exactly be torturous to eat more bacon, but I don't think I can maintain the sort of caloric intake I would need for 75% and meeting my protein needs at the same time. Not for long, anyway. I suspect I'm already in ketosis, but I'll find out tomorrow.

Also forgot to mention that I'm on all whole foods now, so no protein supplementation. Bet my body's thinking, "what.the.****.is.GOINGONHYAW." :D

As I said, the TNT diet is much less concerned with the finer details... but then again, it's designed for your typical "Men's Health" type reader. I like to think I'm a little more advanced than that. [/snob]

Good on ya focus for going with the whole foods. Its hard work finding whole foods but I think its awesome that you can stick with it like this rep +

Thanks, NBS. :)

And this concludes my extra "punishment" cardio. I'll have to restrain myself tomorrow. Really, really want to just say "screw it" on the weight training break, but meh.

So, just for fun, I took my temp, and it was 97.6 F. Will see what it is tomorrow, and begin tracking it. It's too bad I didn't bother to do this while eating zone-like. Would've been nice to be able to reference.

Then I busted out a ketostick. Apparently I'm already at 1.5 mmol/dl. Woot. But, I did just exercise about 2 hours ago. Just light cardio, though, so I'm still gonna take it as a good sign. After all, it's only been 2 days.

I've been thinking about it, and it occurs to me that every time I've fasted (for two weeks, occasionally, sometimes twice a year, and for clarity - never for weight loss) I've dropped weight very quickly. So my keto experience might end up being even better than usual. I can hope, anyway.

Exciting times.

213.0 lbs, 96.3 F today.

Whew. Your entries were getting too complicated there for awhile.

My journal? Complicated? Verbose? Haha. No, you are crazy...

The weight seems to be normalizing quickly, as expected. Question is, am I losing fat? Even these "massive surpluses" I'm eating to ease into keto are still deficits, according to just about any calorie needs calculations. Forgot to take my measurements yesterday, gonna get that in tonight.

Kinda slept in and didn't have time for cardio earlier, but doing it now. Which is fine, because I haven't eaten yet anyway. Hunger is for babies. No, but seriously, I will do better tomorrow. Just keto ****ing with my sleep some more.

Edit: Like that snazzy temperature measurement up there, too? Yeah, I bet you do. Also wanted to just throw in that my scale says I've gone from 22% bodyfat to 14% in the last month. Yeah, I'm sure that's real accurate. -_-

how many calories are you eating per day? Just wondering.

That's cool you are tracking your temp, it'll be interesting to see if it changes eventually. My temp has been increasing... suppose my metabolism WOULD have to increase eating 5500 calories a day and all:p

I'm looking forward to hearing those measurments... did you find a way to get BF tested yet?

Also.. I wonder how those scales can give a measure of bodyfat? Do you have in input your height at all or just stand on it? Seems cccccccrazy to me.

2500-3000. I've got today worked out so I'll be at exactly 75% fat, 24% protein, and 1% (less than 10g) carbs. I had the best ****in' breakfast ever. 4 slices of thick bacon (190 calories per slice, hahaha), 2 eggs, 2 servings of extra old cheddar, and 2 bratwurst (sausages, at 330 calories each). Who knew pan-fried brat would taste so good.

No doubt, it would.

I want to test the theory that I've been undereating. It would explain some things. So, I'm watching this week closely, while I eat way more (but still at what calorie calculations would call a 20% deficit). Supposedly my maintenance is nearly 4000 calories at this level of activity.

Well, yeah, I have some digital bodyfat calipers. They just make me mad because they're hard to use properly without tons of practice. Also, I took measurements last week and I had lost .5 inches in my waist, hips and chest, and gained slightly in my upper arm and thighs. So, that's good, I guess.

Also.. I wonder how those scales can give a measure of bodyfat? Do you have in input your height at all or just stand on it? Seems cccccccrazy to me.

They basically send a little jolt (of electrical current) through (usually your lower) body, record the time it takes to return, and then calculate your body fat based on the level of resistance your body evidenced (how long it took). The idea being that lean mass is a better conductor than fat. That's why it's called bio-impedance (BI).

My scale asks for a number of things. Gender, height, weight, activity level, couple other things I've forgotten, maybe.

Edit: Oh, I guess you meant hydrostatic weighing. No, I haven't figured out a way to get access to that, yet. Asked around at the U, but nobody seems to know anything.

hehe that's an EPIC breakfast!

I didn't necessarily mean underwater weighing for BF test, just if you found any place that does any tests (calipers or anything)

Oh, yeah that stuff about the scale makes sense. I've used some electrical current tests before, ones where you just put your hands on it and it sends current through your body.... honestly I think it mainly takes into account weight and height and just spits out a number :p just kidding... but not entirely.

Also, I wanted to ask you about this... you said "Then I busted out a ketostick. Apparently I'm already at 1.5 mmol/dl. Woot."

My ketostix don't work that way, it just has a color graph and says "small trace, medium trace, large" etc. What does that 1.5 mmol/dl mean? Is that a small trace or something? And that means your in ketosis right? That's great!

Oops. Almost forgot to get this in. Took my measurements tonight and the tape is encouraging. Down 1 inch in the chest, .5 each in waist and hip, thigh stayed the same, and upper arm went up again.

Things seem to be going well. I can get out of my pants without unzipping them again. :D

Yeah, 1.5 is a small trace. Lyle says ketosis is 5-6 mmol/dl. It might have been that I did it only 2 hours after exercising, but I don't think so. I was tempted to test again tonight, but yeah, I'll just wait a bit. I'm pretty sure I'm rocketing into ketosis. My urine is turning a lovely lime yellow and has stuff floating in it. If that's not ketosis, well... ****. o_O

Edit: Here's a link to my Feb 12 contest update post, for anyone who's interested in the specifics.

Well, I'm pretty sure if it's NOT ketosis, you need to be seeing some sort of specialist.

A specialist in freaks!

It's true. T_T I'm gonna have to go live with the incredibly slow reflexes dude and that guy who has to eat cheese every 20 mins or he'll die.

211.6 this morning. Weight's almost back to where it was when I started keto 3 days ago.

Starting to develop a bit of a stitch in my left calf. I think those two double days were overdoing it a little, but it'll go away. It was worse yesterday evening. It's not really even worth mentioning, to be honest, I just wanted to have something to say.

Oh, and my appetite's starting to take a hit already. All I had was a couple pieces of ham and some cheese for breakfast today. Gonna try to eat some more now. High density stuff, some bacon and some more brat. Couple eggs. Breakfast for dinner. :D

Damn straights. But holy hell do I ever not like fried eggs of any kind. So, I'm boiling a few days worth right now. I don't mind hard boiled as much. It'll be a little difficult without mustard (which I am technically allowed) but I'll survive. Gonna cook a few bratwurst at a time, and some extra bacon too so I won't have to cook tomorrow. Not sure if it'll be anywhere near as good cold, but meh.

I'm seriously pondering getting a new George Foreman type grill. I threw my last one out cause it makes food taste like ass, but it's so damn convenient. Maybe I can learn to cook breakfast in the oven...

Edit: Frying bacon smells so good, though. Hope I don't go crazy and just eat everything. :p

I love hardboiled eggs. I boiled a dozen thinking they'd be around for awhile but my roommate TORE through them.

I also hate my George Foreman. It's kind convenient, but it makes everything dry and ass-tasty.

You could get an electric griddle
