Beetle's training log

Okay, well I spent about an hour swimming down the beach yesterday arvo, have no idea how far I went, but I kept my heart rate up pretty well, which I suppose is what counts.
I didn't get for my run this morning, had a late night for new years and it was too hot by the time I woke up. I did go down the beach for a bit of a swim though. I'm really enjoying swimming at the moment, more than I ever have before.
I've also been eating really cleanly the last few days, feeling so much better for it too, do still have a few weak moments where I consider chocolate/lollies/chips, but reminding myself about how much better I feel without them seems to be enough to restrain myself. I'm going to go for a ride later this arvo, then it's back to full rowing training tomorrow morning, that'll be a shock to the hands, I think they've actually softened a little in the last week or so, not looking forward to fresh blisters...

I must say, I can't believe how positive I'm feeling at the moment, I can't wait to get back in a boat tomorrow, but have also enjoyed my time off doing other things, I think a triathlon will be on the cards in the not too distant future.

Okay, about time for an update. Had my first training session back in a boat for almost 10 days yesterday and it felt great. I also did about 50km of cycling and a 1.5hr weights circuit, so all in all a good day of training.
Today I cycled to and from training again (20km), did a 10km row, a 9 km run (59mins 38 secs) and then a 30km bike ride. Feeling really good getting back in a boat, just trying to find my routine again. My eating as also been really good and i'm hoping i'll be able to keep it that way, was down to 63.1kg this morning. :)

Well, it's been awhile, I've been away on a rowing training camp in the middle of nowhere, away from tv/news/internet, felt kind of weird coming back to civilization...
We slogged it out for almost 10 days at 4 on water sessions and one strength/stretching session a day, did almost 600km of rowing which is massive!! Felt like I definitely made improvements and have dropped 2 more kg's which was a bit of a shock considering the amount of chocolate and other stuff we ate, I think I'm going to have a bit of trouble cutting back my appetite for a few days now that we're doing less. I was burning an average of 4500 calories per day!!!
Got back on my bike this morning and it felt great to be able to change things up a bit.
My focus for this week is on eating proper healthy foods and maintaining the loss that I had on camp. :)

Well the last few days have been a bit of a nightmare, I just found out that my lightweight double partner isn't coming to nationals anymore and have subsequently been told to maintain my weight and row in the heavyweight eight. It is really a bit disheartening 7 weeks out from nationals to have to change my plans so drastically, but it is really my only option. I now feel like i've wasted a whole lot of time trying to get down to weight and losing muscle in the process which I now need to try and gain again.
On a better note, training has been going really well and I am enjoying the extra energy I have while I'm able to eat to maintain rather than lose weight. Our coach popped a suprise 2km ergo test on us last night after a 2 hour weights session and I'm pleased to say I still managed to pull a PB after a hard week of training so can't wait to see what I can pull after tapering... We have yet another full on week of training to come, we have trained 2-3 times a day for the last 17 days straight and will continue to do so for the next two weeks before uni and school go back and then a rest day will be snuck in every 8-11 days and we'll cut back to only 2 sessions a day, albeit much longer sessions.
I'm loving training at the moment and really enjoying the improvements i'm seeing. :)

totally cool! you can do it. Think of it as a workout, and dump yourself into it. Heavyweights got nothing on endurance combines with some attitude.

Thanks Flyinfree, I'm gonna put everything I can into it and hope for the best.
Today I did a long bike ride up Norton Summit, which is a massive hill climb popular with many cyclists where I live, I managed to knock over 3mins off my PB time for this climb which just shows me how much things have improved recently and forces me to keep going. I also did a 10km run, at 58mins wasn't too bad considering I'd just come off my bike and I am really bad at running. Then tonight I did 2km of slow lap swiming as part of our active recovery, my muscles feel better for it already. Looking forward to a hard training week in the boat!!!

That adds up to an olympic length triathlon you just completed:jump1:
