Hack Squats

When I was doing Hack squats the other day, instead of feeling it in my quads, i felt it mostly in my upper back, and behind the shoulder area. and then the next day, the back of my shoulders were sore. Am I doing it wrong, or is this normal? I checked my form, and it seems i'm doing it the way I'm supposed to be, but I'm not feeling it at all in my quads like i usually do with normal squats.

I assume those were barbell rather than sled hack squats? If you can do the sled hack squat or use one of the machines in the gym which shows the quads taking the pressure its easier on your back. I remember the strain on my back the first time i did dumbbell squats and switched to the quad machine.

I lift at home, and yes barbell hack squats( or in my case curl bar ), seems like a good upper back exercise though...

Lifting at home - then that limits your options. The other thing I can suggest is that you need to watch your technique otherwise serious injury can result. If your technique is bad serious pressure can be put on the spine.

Hmm, my technique seemed pretty good, hack squats aren't all that complex. And I didn't feel any pain or anything, just felt like I was working my upper back more than my legs.

Whenever you do a new exercise you might be suprised at how you're sore in strange places. This is normal and only tells you that you're using muscles you don't normally use, or don't use in that position with that load, etc.

There isn't much to worry about if you're only feeling it in your upper back, and not even your spine, if that.

Alright, thanks.
