Virtual personal trainer

I used to pay about 850$/month for a trainer and recently switched to a virtual trainer! Has anyone here ever considered/used a virtual trainer before?

A fraction of the price and way more attention to detail!
Instead of standing over me and simply counting for an hour, a virtual trainer will count all of my calories and supply me with a new meal plan each week along with a goal-oriented training program that is relevant to my training conditions.
More bang for my buck and very motivating!

There are a lot of these virtual trainers out there now but the one I used was doctorworkout.com

in my opinion online personal training isn't much use at all...but by the same token, 850/month is a lot of money to some people, but if you have that spare and your trainer is doing a good job then stay with that...And online trainer can give you good knowledge but as far as i'm concerned, the fact that they can't be there at the session with you doesn't make it worth your while.

I'm one!

here is lesson number one for free--

sweat daily

#2- start a personal journal and post to it daily

#3- follow the advice you get from members that have what you want-- ie: Derwydon, Sparrow, NAE82, and many others,, you can even have great friends like Deschain, and spicey...

#4- help others when you can.

Unless of course you are 'secretly' trying to unify and play the game because you are a virtual trainer too, and our trolling our pond in an attempt to find clients.

did I mention SWEAT DAILY!

Well, this raises an interesting question: what do people think of this "service?" Although I don't consider myself to be an "online trainer," I certainly offer those services, and I know that a number of the posters here do too. So...

1) what are your thoughts on online training? Worth it, not worth it?
2) would you ever consider hiring a personal trainer, online or otherwise?
3) if yes, how much would you be willing to pay for a trainer, online or otherwise? What would determine the amount that you'd be willing to spend?
4) if you ever have worked with a trainer, online or in-person, what were your impressions of this service?

I'm sure that I'll think of a few other questions, but that's a starter. :)

Whatever kind of trainer you choose it doesn't matter if you work hard on a regular basis. Me personally like to work with alive things but hey virtual trainer? Why not if it makes you work harder!

Here in australia, You can get a doctors referal to an exercise physiologist (who is far far more superior) and get the first 5 sessions free. I cant remember if its a month or year but i dont think the regular fee is to expensive anyway.

Online or otherwise, I think a trainer should be someone that cares about you and your progress. really cares, doesn't just see you as their monthly mortgage payment. You know if you don't show up, they call ya, or if you aren't doing the work gets on your case.

I would hire a trainer that would get paid after results. I have to do my part and he/she their part and if there are results they get their money. Part of their part is to care and encourage you, inspire ya, motivate ya to do it, get fit & healthy. I mean really, isn't that the reason sign up on these forums, for support. If at least one guru/expert posted at least once every other day in all these newbies diaries, there would be more success stories.

I always said that I would love to open a gym that is really there for the members, not just the money. I think motivation is very tough for people and that would be the main focus of the gym, to motivate and encourage. More of a therapy gym. :jump1:

Hey Der,

Didn't know u were a pt. wouldn't have thunk it the other nite.

Anyway, yes I definitely agree it is a partnership, but I think part of the responsibility has to be as a trainer, that you do motivate and encourage, not just that you go through the moves w/ them. Also, as a client it is up to you to hold up your end of the bargain, but think it would be that much easier if you really felt your trainer was sincerely concerned about you achieving your goals. For me, watching that biggest loser show, the guy trainer seems like he sincerely cares, where the woman trainer - I don't feel her sincerity so much about the clients as much as I feel she is more pissed off about them not losing the most every week as it is a reflection of her.

How about rating Personal Trainers that way - % of clients that reach their goals. I guess what I am saying, their job is to motivate, eductate & encourage. And yes, I know, that you can bring a horse to water but can't make 'em drink it. (is that the saying, always screw those things up). Part of the clients job is to write in his/her diary every night listing what they ate, workout, feelings, thoughts. That would be part of their commitment. yeh, I guess i don't have the answers as I never really thought it all out.

Man, I know I am going to get heat on this post as it seems I am blaming the pt's and that's not it at all. imo, i've been to way toooo many gyms where the sales woman/man are in shape, encourage u to sign on the dotted line and once u do and come back they ignore ya, don't even know that you existed. Witnessed it way too many times. Drives me nuts when I see this as once that person signs up, they don't even say "hi" to them when they come back to the gym. It makes me feel bad for the poor bastad. I know they are in the biz to make money as are pt's. Walk out w/out signing and they call ya and try to get ya back to the gym to sign up. They should do the same thing once u sign up. call ya and say, "hey, it' shows you haven't been here for a week and we just wanted to check on ya"

If I was to open my own gym, that would be our focus, to show that we really do care and would go all out to encourage and motivate ya. Maybe charge a % of their income and tell them they get it back once they meet their goals. I know it is a two way street. No, I am not saying you don't care but would you say that there are plenty of gyms w/ trainers that are in it to get a paycheck more so than to get results or do u think I am off w/ that statement? Okay and to all fairness, are they really even certified trainers besides

Christ, just reread what I wrote and u would think I don't believe in PT's and that's not it at all. Just believe, imo, a trainer has to be sincere and really motivate and encourage their clients.

Okay, so can I be one of your clients???;) I'll pay you after the results, u can trust me. lol
:D

Spam, why wasn't the thread/post deleted? Probably will be after u read my posts. I probably will be deleted too. lol

Hey
I just joined this forum today and its funny coz a group of us personal trainers here in australia just started a website to find personal trainers in your local area, we considered making an online trainer site but figured that mos of our clients prefer (AND need) that extra kick in the ass to make it happen. SO we developed a site which is a profile site for each trainer to show and talk about what they do and leave it up to the user to hire who they feel fits best (a partnership).

I think the sad thing about online personal trainers is like when you have a book that you always wanted to read but never did..well im sure if you had someone standing over you day after day kicking your butt you would :D
