Alligatorob's Diary

It was a good day, I ate well, got a little exercise, and feel good tonight. Am thinking about going to the gym in the morning just to do some aerobic things and start to get back in the habit, but have not decided. The positive Covid test there worries me.
You feel like the fatigue has been the hardest part post-op? I find that the smallest tasks exhaust me and its annoying. I am sure you are dealing with the same.
Yeah, the fatigue has been there, but its getting better, I am a bit more than 3 weeks out so it should be. Good to hear from you Vegas!
God a shock when I opened your page and saw the lumberjack men . Nice video LaMa . Lol

Have a good day Rob
Thanks Petal, I did have a good day!
Definitely not just you, but I'm single to, so...
Ha! No one would confuse me with one of those guys...
I'm glad you haven't been going to the gym, Rob. It's awful reading the covid figures in the US.
Thanks Cate, and it is probably for the best, now I have to decide when to go back... may wait a few more days. My follow up doctor's appointment is next Thursday, by then it will be a couple of weeks since the positive test at the gym, should know if its spreading. May wait for that. We do have way too many cases, though it is still a small minority of the population.
All I can think of is saw dust and wood chips flying at & sticking to sweaty skin...
Not so much of that, I do most of my splitting using a wedge and mallet, fewer chips and not so impressive. Too cold for much sweat now.

Hi Rob
Just catching up a bit on your diary--Nice to hear you continuing to recover well and feeling good. Personally I would give the gym some space if there was a recent covid case there...but i am on the super cautious side. Sounds like a good idea to wait until after the follow up appt anyhow.

I'm one of the odd ones out who don't like looking at really muscly me.
The funny part is that I generally don't either. I have an anatomy guide if I want to look up muscles and I know how few waking hours remain to enjoy life when a guy spends that much time on gym and food, which is majorly off-putting. But Brandon is a definite exception.

I struggled today, in the end I stayed within my calorie plan and did a bit more exercise in the yard. I have decided not to go back to the gym until after my doctor's visit on Thursday, if he says its ok, and the Covid thing seems safe I will go back. We have just been put on the highest virus alert, an emergency message went out to every cell phone in Utah telling us. However no real restrictions come with it, no closings just a "mandatory" mask order that goes unenforced... I went to the store today, I was just about the only one with a mask.

Hey Liza, good to see you, and it is probably in part that I am recovering well that I struggled today. Getting my apatite back is one sign... I will be careful about the gym.

Interesting the discussion my diary seems to have attracted, I am enjoying it. I agree with you LaMa, with respect to looking at women anyway. I enjoy looking at the female form as much as anyone, but I have always found women who I felt could relate to the most attractive, not models or playboy bunnies. People in at least my age range and with normal healthy bodies.

That's a good way of putting it.

I always enjoy the tangents we go off on in our diaries. To me, a "normal" healthy body seems much more attractive. I really cringe when I see the lengths some people take to be what they think is attractive. Cate, *shudders*....beesting lips, massive boobs, ridiculous muscles, makeup put on with a trowel...... Ugh.
I hope you stay well clear of the gym, Rob. We don't want one of our support crew going down with covid!

I’m thinking we are all pretty normal on here .
Rob I don’t often read your food journal but you look to get eating normally now which is a big win .

Oh boy that's terrible :( I don't understand why people don't like to take normal precautions. It just seems so easy and natural to follow basic measures to slow the spread. Good for you taking the precautions Rob.

And good call on avoiding the gym for now!

Happy Halloween y'all!

It was a good day, I ate well got a bit of exercise around the yard and feel good tonight. I have committed to upping my exercising somehow, not the gym just yet, but I will find a way.
That's a good way of putting it.
Thanks LaMa, I believe a lot of us think that way.

Thanks Petal, I am trying to get to more "normal", but figuring out what normal should be for me is a bit of a struggle. Yes I believe most folks here are pretty normal, and I would be happy to see anyone on the forum!

I agree, wearing a mask is a bit irritating but it makes so much sense. And doesn't really restrict what you can do. Today I went out and did see more mask wearers, hopefully its a trend.

Upping your exercise, if you're being careful, seems like a good idea. Finding your new normal is your challenge, but I'm sure you will, Rob.

I ate pretty well today. I did not do the planned formal exercise, but I did do a lot of work in the yard, and I was just too tired by day's end for an exercise session. It was my first full day of physical labor since surgery and I guess I don't have the stamina I had a month ago. I know I'll get it back, will try for some formal exercise tomorrow.

I did get some good news from the bird refuge, they want me to do some volunteer work at last. Nothing big, but its something. Hunting season is on and they need people to check and document swans hunters take, Saturday will be my first day. I know it sounds strange to have hunters on a bird refuge, but that is how it works. I am ok with it, I have hunted and know it's well managed. With the virus the volunteer program has mostly shut down, and this will have to be done with minimal human contact. The hunters are stopped at the refuge exit, where they are supposed to leave the swans on a table with their licenses and back away. Then I will go to the table to check the license, measure the swans, and collect some feathers. When done I back away before the hunter can take the birds. All has to be done wearing masks. A whole lot more reasonable than most of what is happening here right now.
Good luck on the exercise commitment Rob . Me too . A little bit even is better than none .
Thanks Petal, and I think I did ok today, I did not get the workout in I had planned, but it was because I did a lot of other exercising. I do plan to keep the commitment, but after today can see I may need to start a little more slowly than I had envisioned.

Thanks Cate, and I am being careful. Listened to my body today and decided the garden work was enough.

If swans are plentiful I don't see a problem with hunters taking a predetermined amount, especially if it means the refuge has a bitof money to spend on less fortunate species. I am very curious how well people will stick to the rules you outlined. Not very optimistic, but at least it sounds like it'll be outside.

The swan job sounds interesting although it's sad forvthe swans .

Your garden work ticks an exercise box for sure . Go easy on yourself Rob

I'm glad you will be going back to the refuge to do some volunteer work, but gobsmacked about the "hunting" of swans being allowed in the "sanctuary".
Working in the garden is great exercise.

Today was a good day, ate well, exercised and feel good tonight. Did a 5 km walk, at a bit faster than a meander pace, it felt good.

I have to confess that I miss counted my squash calories yesterday, I probably had as much as 200 calories more than I wrote down. My mistake, I will be watching things more carefully. I know my calorie counts are not precise, but yesterday's error was avoidable if I had been paying attention.

I think the hunting makes the refuges possible. It is a large place, over 50,000 ha in total, and politically it needs broad support. Hunters are a group that does not normally like the idea of government control of land, hunting changes the equation. The wildlife is very well managed, that helps. Will see how well folks stick to the rules, I hope they do, but know that maybe wishful thinking. As you say it will be outside, that helps.

Thanks Petal, yeah I have done some hunting myself, but never swans and not many birds. You know I did a good walk today and I am sure I burned more calories per hour doing the garden work.

The wildlife refuges in the US all, or most all, allow hunting. They were originally organized to protect wildlife so that hunting could continue without wiping species out. Like I said in the end I think it works better politically that way. Most of our national parks do not allow hunting, which has lead to over population problems in some. Most of our large predators are gone or greatly reduced, hunters kind of fill the ecological niche left by our loss of things like grizzly bears, wolves, and mountain lions.

Same here: brown bears and wolves may be starting to come back (although so far every one that tried has been illegally shot) but without hunting the wild boar would eat every last green shoot and root.

Given your description of the pace of your walk, that's a certainty. With gardening, you're using a much wider range of muscles in a much wider range of movement: bending, stretching, lifting. There's nothing wrong with walking at a slow pace, but you either need a fair turn of speed, to be going up hills, or to be carrying a fair weight, to burn many calories.
