Alligatorob's Diary

The best person I knew was Dutch and so I nominated him without thinking much, he was quickly rejected without official explanation. I was told informally that they did not want a Dutch guy. So I guess there may still be a few hard feelings.
Can´t blame ´em for lingering resentment. The Dutch sucked their country dry and abused their people for over three centuries and the end is still in living memory.

Had to post this, picture taken today. I am wearing the size 40 Levis 401s, my long ago favorite pants. They are a bit tight but fit well enough to wear. This is the biggest size they make (I think), not big man's pants for sure, and the first pair I've been able to wear in over 30 years. You may also be able to see me holding the belt that I was wearing on the last notch just last year this time. The shirt is one of my favorite Hawaiians, an XL, with no number. First time I have worn it in a very long time. I don't normally wear it tucked in, but I did for the picture just to prove I can.

I sure am feeling good about this! I ain't skinny yet, but I am not so obviously fat. When I can put on a pair of 34s, I'll be there.

Thanks to all here for your support.IMG_0687.jpg

Oh, wow!!! I'm in town & just had a sneak peek at the forum. Woot!! Well done, Rob! Just look at that belt :D

It was a good day, ate well and am feeling good, and good about where I am. I fly to Phoenix early tomorrow morning for a couple of days, so my logging may not be so regular, but I will try to stay on track.
What a different person to 8 months ago.
Thanks Petal, and I am feeling like a different person. I suppose your friend is size 0, in part because she eats that way. I didn't know there was a size 0, but I don't know much about women's sizes.

That's probably true, and such things are not quickly forgotten.

Thanks Cate, first time I put the belt around me in a while. Had to get the picture. I'll date myself but you may remember the Jackie Gleason show, if it showed in Australia anyway. I remember a skit about a garage sale and one of the items was "a belt once worn by Jackie Gleason" and they pulled out a belt about 6 ft long, much to Jackie's chagrin. Jackie was overweight, it was one of his trademarks, Fred Flintstone was based on Jackie. Even at a very young age I understood the significance of the story and think of it from time to time. Now I guess I have a belt like that.
That must feel like a real victory!
Thanks Liza, it does. And I know I could not have done it without the support of folks here.

1060 was the year that Cai Xiang, published his two volume book The Record of Tea. The book documents, explains in detail, comments and criticizes the preparation and usage of tea and its vessels. He provides great detail on subjects such as the properties of tea, preheating, boiling, etc. Cai himself was a true renessance man, it seems tea was only one of his interests, in addition he was a great calligrapher, politician, structural engineer, and poet. A quote from his book: "Tea has intrinsic aroma. But tribute tea manufacturers like to mix small amount of Dryobalanops aromatica camphor, supposedly to enhance the aroma. The local people of Jian'an never mix any incense into tea, afraid to robe the natural aroma of tea. "

You are looking great! You must've lost a foot off your waist! The tidied-up beard makes you look 15 years younger as well.

Down 3 lbs to 225, I am happy! Its a day early, but I am pretty sure the weight it right, and I am on a business trip tomorrow so won't have a scale.

Thanks Jack, Lama, and Cate (thank G for me as well). It does feel good. I still have a lot to lose, but I'm beginning to feel more like a normal person. LaMa, I think I feel more than 15 years younger, but its not the beard.

Thanks all, just a quick late post from Phoenix. I think it did ok today, not much food before dinner, but I did eat more dinner than usual. Went out with old friends to a good Mexican place, and Phoenix has good Mexican. No access to my calorie counter so here is a WAG

Breakfast
Banana 105

Lunch
Jerky 175, this one is right, got it from the lable

Dinner
Big beer 300
Taco salad WAG 500 really just a stab in the dark, I only ate half and put none of the dressing, sour cream, or guacamole on it, but there was a lot of bean/meat glop and that was probably high cal. But I only at half of what was served, oh and I did not eat the tortilla shell.

Total, probably about 1,080

Rob, spent some time catching up a little on your thread. You have been doing so well! The picture you recently posted says so much about both your progress and your frame of mind. I am happy to see it.

Back from Phoenix and it was an ok day, did not get enough to eat early on, but I am ok now. I have an early meeting and breakfast was supposed to be served, but there was nothing I was comfortable eating, so I skipped it. Then at lunch I ordered what looked like the biggest salad on the menu, but it turned out to be pretty small. When I finally got home I ate fine, but decided not to try and catch up, its late and I'm feeling full.

Thanks Cate, I am always happy to hear from you. To be honest my ability to restrain is amazing me, I have fasted and done pretty low calorie diets in the past, but my cravings were awful. Now they are still there, but more controllable. Not completely sure why.

Cory, I am happy to see your face on my diary again, its been way too long!

It was in 529 that Justinian I closed the Academy in Athens originally founded by Plato, in about 387 BC. Justinian's rational was that it practiced, " un-Christian activities". Many of the school's professors emigrated to Persia and Syria. Not a great thing for science.

Wow Rob 225 that is absolutely amazing . You are really coasting this . Your restraint is totally amazing . I can’t believe you are so little on your trip so well done to you . Did your friends notice the new Rob ? I bet they were impressed . Keep it up

Hi Rob!
I have to say - amazing results! Really!

And I'm really fascinated with your willpower and dedication. It's not easy to begin with something new when you're not that young any more!
That makes your result even more fascinanting in my eyes! I would be happy to lose a half of what you did! Amazing!

It was a good day, I ate well and feel good. Did another closet organization and I was pretty happy. When I started this diet I had many boxes of clothes I had outgrown over the years, some dating back more than 30 years. Now out of well over 100 too small shirts I have exactly 1 that's still too small, and its close to fitting. Out of probably as many shorts and pants I have none left that don't fit. I have gone from 5 and 6 xl shirts to some 2 xls, but mostly just xl, and pants from 62 to 38 or 40s. Now I have a big, but nearly last batch of clothes to donate, my closet is starting to look empty. I still need to lose some weight, but the next size down I will have to begin buying.

Did your friends notice the new Rob ?
Thanks for your kind words and asking Petal, and yes my friends noticed, in fact most everyone I met did. Many of the people in my meetings were folks I had not seen in a while.

when you're not that young any more!
Yep, KC, that's me, lol. I guess I am surprised that I have been able to lose weight as fast as I have at my age, but its happening, and I am feeling a lot younger. About the willpower and dedication I honestly have to give credit to the folks here for helping me with a lot of that. From day one I have gotten good advice and support when I needed it. Now that I am almost 9 months into this it is taking less willpower and that's a good thing. I think that is in part due to a good start and just not breaking down at all. And I did that one day at a time, when I started I never imagined I could do it for so long but one day at a time and here I am. Now I have to be careful not to be boastful, I know I am always no more than a minute away from a binge, I can't forget that. And I do believe the pride goeth before destruction thing (Proverbs 16:18, I very rarely cite the Bible but that one I know).

1004 on the Islamic calendar is about 1596 on our Gregorian calendar, and Sir Francis Drake died in 1596. His death must have been an unpleasant one after a series of failed attempts to attack the Spanish in the Caribbean and Central America he contracted dysentery and died. He was 56, a ripe old age at the time for someone who spent most of his life as a slave trader and pirate. He was of course an important English explorer and adventurer as well.
