Can taking supplements be harmful?

Many diet supplements do not harm your body. Some may work by creating a sense of fullness or boosting your metabolism, but certain ingredients found in weight loss products have been banned by the FDA because of their harmful side effects.

about a year ago i gave up a few things, among them, milk. for a while i was thinking about the effedts of missing out on the calcium and vitamin D, but have never gotten around to it. has it had a negative effect on my health? doesn't appear to have.

one thing those articles both agree on is to talk to your doctor about any supplements you are considering. while this might theoretically be a good idea, from experience i found my doctor to be fairly uninterested. when i mentioned intermittent fasting, it seemed like he had no idea what i was talking about. the medical industry seems to have a problem with anything they cannot sell you.
 
@tetrogen91 You are right! The nature gives us a lot of natural health supplements. Only what we need is knowledge.
Why did you start this topic? Have you had any problems because of taking supplements?

While you're here, could you recommend some of those natural supplements and their effects? or perhaps point me in the right direction to find them? I'm a bit leery of those over the counter weight loss supplements. They all look like just a bunch of psychoactive stimulants.

Mostly weight loss supplements are bad for your digestive system and all body in a long period of time. There are so many people who suffered from reflux and other digestive illnesses after taking those pills.
When I am talking about natural supplements I mean that it would be great if people would start from repair their body. Almost everyone should start from intestines and immune system. Those two are the most powerful systems in our body. When it doesn't work well- everything won't work well including the weight loss process.

Long story short:

  • diet rich in NATURAL antibiotics, and probiotics
  • supplement - probiotics (at least 10 strains of bacteria resistant to gastric acids)
  • and herbs which are the treasure of nature

I don't know your problem which is harder to tell you what exactly would work for you.
