Thanks everyone. I can FEEL the difference, and it seems obvious when I look in the mirror or down at myself. I’m frustrated at the scale though. Maybe something is wrong with the scale? Today it’s still at 221 — I was down to 219 for a while.

I’m going to do 3 things:

—supplement magnesium. It’s one of the minerals I haven’t been tracking, but I’m aware it can be a problem on a keto diet and that a lot of dieters supplement. It should help with a feeling that I’m regularly a bit constipated.
—cut the calories. The ketogains model I’ve been using targets my calories at 1400-1500 and my protein at 100+ grams. Along with the exercise, this should give me a 2 pound loss/week. Either I’m gaining an awful lot of muscle weight (definite), or my metabolism is broken enough that I don’t lose weight at that calorie level. I did a little research already and found a recommendation for 80 grams of protein. So I’m going to be splitting the difference and shooting for 90 which should still be plenty adequate to spare muscle loss and give me a bit of a cushion to also add mass. Along with that, my new calorie guideline is 1260/day, chosen with MFP and looking at all your calorie intake. The extra snack has been an issue, but I honestly don’t think cutting it out completely is the answer. It is immensely satisfying to me. I need to use my willpower a little bit, am I in this to win it? Yes it’s hard.

Other than eating chicken at both meals, yesterday was a “perfect” day. My snack goal was to NOT consume the snack right after lunch and instead wait until after dinner, and I succeeded and got busy instead. Here was my day yesterday, unfortunately I forgot to drink the almond milk with dinner.

Oh gosh not letting me add photos.

The last thing I’ll do is start weighing myself at the Y instead. Maybe that giant clunky scale is more accurate. The doctor will pull a weight tomorrow as well so I should get an idea about whether or not it’s even accurate.

I still have 20 more days to make this month a success, plenty of time to shave another 5 pounds or so.

Hope everyone is doing well. Thanks for being here. It helps being a bit accountable to someone or something besides myself. I’m going to start entering my food diary here at the end of the day, I think knowing you are all going to see it helps me to control the craving. The problem isn’t the craving — we all have those — it’s giving in. I need learn to control my urge, one at a time.

Eventually I’ll get bored with this snack, when that happens I’ve been eyeing a keto blueberry cheesecake recipe. o_O Haha!

I downloaded a couch to 5k type running app and I’d like to start that, it’s 3x a week. Our road walk is too rocky and so I think I’ll save the sessions for the treadmill at the gym. I did the first one the other day, it was basically walk 5 minutes, then repeat alternating 60 seconds of running with 90 seconds of walking for 15 minutes. I made it through the 3rd running cycle but for the rest of the workout I did really fast walking in place of the running. It kicked my ass! I might be on this first weeks program for a month or more. On the .4th gym day I’ll just stick with the elliptical, they really don’t want you to run more than 3 days a week.

Got in a good walk with the dogs yesterday, 2.5 miles. We’ll head out again in a little bit for today’s walk. Man, I LOVE this time of year, it’s not even 60 degrees out yet. Nate is back but still with his Dad, maybe he’ll join us for a walk. Today is a gym day and and the pool is OPEN!

Good thinking. If you overdo it at the beginning you´re likely to burn out on this whole running thing. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

It's all good, Pam. You're doing well. You'll be getting fitter & your heart will love you right back. Yay for the pool being open again :)

That's a great insight, and I agree posting here has really helped me control cravings. I think about what I am going to post here every time I am tempted by something.
the pool is OPEN!
Good news indeed! And didn't you say that would give Nathan more to do at the gym?

I had a couple really great days, under 1,300 calories. My strategy of NOT having the snack after lunch paid off 2 days in a row. Today will be easier, immediately after lunch I’ll bring Nate to his Dad on the way to my Dr appt. It’s a good 120 mile round trip and when I get back to town I’ll be heading out for a gym session.

Yesterday the visit to the pool was awesome! I did 20 min on the elliptical, then skipped the weights and went right to the pool. Couldn’t put it off any longer! It felt like heaven.

I weighed myself with the scale at the Y and got the same reading as the scale at home, though it was later in the day — 221. This morning the scale says I am back down to 219 (yay). I’m really hoping that with the calories notched down just that bit, that I can get the scale moving in the right direction again.

School starts back up on Friday, Nate and I have decided to move our walk to the afternoons, hopefully it won’t be too warm. It’ll be a busy couple weeks easing into new routines but we can do it.

Thanks Lama. So here I am 45 days in about and down 8 pounds. I’m amazed by all the little changes — I can see them, although I know it’s hard for others. A hundred little things — my skin, how it hangs, energy levels, all of it. I’m trying to envision myself even only 10 pounds lighter — wow! I can’t wait to meet me! I won’t be anywhere near the person I was when I first hit that weight.

Taking these few steps, clean and mindful eating, and working exercise into my daily routine, has triggered a bit of a snowfall in other areas of my life. Quite a change. Thanks for coming along on the ride. :coolgleamA:

That's great to hear! Not least because feeling those non-weight-related benefits makes it easier to stick with the process.

It is amazing how much better we feel when we line up our ducks. Mine are scattered at the moment. I love hearing that things are just falling into place for you, Pam. You sound so positive & happy :)

Good morning everyone! My doctor appt went well, I have a new med so hopefully I start to feel a bit more stable. The med is Geodon, it is not known for causing weight gain, and she starts me on a baby dose. The label carries specific warnings about overheating, so I might need to be careful when exercising. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed and done with the day, and I skipped my workout at the Y and just came straight home instead. Afterwards ...

I had an extra snack last night. :banghead: I don’t know why I did it, but I was feeling weak. Here was my day without the extra snack worked in, true calories were 270 over this.

Sorry about the numbers, I had trouble getting the pic grid to sit right and didn’t want to F with it anymore. I omitted the breakfast portion which is only coffee cream at 35 calories which is included in the totals.

The doctor scale agreed with my scale at 219 which was a win. It triggered a warning in their data because my last visit to them I was at 245. Then I got to talk about dieting and exercise and it was a good part of the appointment.

And today, back down to 218 from my recent uptick to 222. 9 pounds, 9%!!!

So I think the drop to about 1,260 calories has really paid off. And 2 days without the extra snack made a big difference. One snack = success.

This morning we’ll be walking and then hitting the Y right after lunch. I got Nate a swimming mask, he hates the water up his nose, and we’ve started playing diving games. He enjoys that. I think I’ll order a mask for myself so I can join in the diving part. I have the best kid!! Today I HAVE to workout before I swim, but I’ll do weights only as I’ll already have a good walk in this morning for my cardio, and the weights should really only take 20 or 30 minutes.

Hoping everyone has a great day and lots of success!

Good for you! You've earned it.

Do you always weigh at the same time, and in the same clothes? I find that can help with some of the ups and downs. I weighed last night just before going to bed, and again first thing this morning. Just that made a 2 lb difference. I always take my first thing in the morning weight as "official" it is usually the lowest of the day, and that keeps things more consistent. You have lost enough weight now that no matter what time of day or state of dress you are in your weight will be below your beginning weight, that must feel good.

That is excellent!

:D Laughing for pleasure at the thought of you triggering the medicos with your brilliant self-care. (Good for them for keeping an eye, of course - that's their job, and they're doing it. :) )

Yes, I always weigh myself first thing in the morning with just light pajamas. Ideally before coffee but after pooping. :smilielol5:Every little bit helps! I think my scale is mostly accurate, at least it’ll do. If I weigh at the Y it ends up being in the middle of the day so I know there’s bound to be a couple pounds. Man, I’d love to see 218 again tomorrow ... or 217!!! :p

8pm Ok, started this post but forgot to hit send. Today was a success and no problems from the new med. We managed to walk a little over 2 miles yesterday and I squeezed in a quick workout on the weights. Here is the lowdown, can you see this ok?
