YES! Tonight’s ride was STELLAR! I reached my streetlight land mark and felt good so I kept going. I was aiming to reach the next street sign about 100m up the road and turn around but as I was reaching it a car came up from behind and I thought “I can’t stop now; not while I’m being watched!” I decided to push on and go to the top, after all I don’t HAVE to try for the top tomorrow.

The rest of the climb is much easier except for one short stint of about 150m where it gears up to about 9% but as it’s short I can more or less sprint up it; albeit much slower than a flat sprint.

Ended up at the top of the road at an average of 18km/h. Slower than yesterday but twice the distance so I’m pleased. A quick stop to check my times and back down the hill. Stopped again about half way down for a city lights photo (never as good in photos as in real life plus I didn’t realise how blurry it was when I took it) and of course a photo of the full moon. 29EAA9F2-CB01-4FD3-9C6D-FD61EDE43A50.jpeg3A1BBFDA-CB47-422D-B221-3EBA960319BE.png

Feeling very pleased now. 3FD31D33-71CA-4931-B650-8A548F45A4DA.jpeg

Hey TM thanks for visiting my diary, I need all the advice I can get. You seem to be one of the folks here who has lost a lot of weight, I am trying to figure out how others have done it and adsorb your wisdom.

I was once an avid bicycler. Grew up in Florida and for the first 16 years or so of life a bike was my primary means of transport, year round I rode somewhere every day. I had an old Schwinn Roadster, not fast but indestructible. I used to like riding off the end of piers or seawalls, it actually takes a bit of skill to go strait off, and you need to be sure the water is deep enough to cushion the impact, but not so deep you can't retrieve the bike. I did some riding in college and for a few years after but it has been many years since I was on a bike. The place we live now is not ideal for biking.

I don’t know if I could bring myself to ride my bike into the water! I give it a good thorough wash twice a week; it almost gets more attention than my partner!

I’ve lost quite a bit of weight simply by getting back to being active and enjoying exercise again. No wisdom there unfortunately.

A couple of things happened today ...

1/ I had a need to wear a blazer to the office. I’ve only got 2 left. One is my very expensive tailor made blazer that is miles and miles too big now. I’m holding onto it to maybe get it tailored to fit again when I’m at my final size and one that I wore many years ago; it’s good quality but not tailor made. It’s my “thin” blazer. I put it on this morning and it was FAR too big! I’m now thinner than I was when I considered myself to be thin.

2/ I was in a meeting today with a bloke I haven’t seen for a while who asked if I’d been exercising because I “look very fit.”

Good boost to my ego today BUT I’m angry that I now need to buy a new blazer or two.

It was the old Schwinn a very heavy bike, one speed with coaster brakes, indestructible. I would never ride a modern bike into the water.

Just seeing others, like you, who are being successful help. Thanks!

I'd be happy about having to buy new clothes, well worth it.

No ride tonight. My bike is still at the mechanics. Took the dog for a walk instead. Nothing strenuous; just a few kms around the streets.

We’ll see what happens tomorrow night.

Got my bike back today. Service was great. Rolls like new and was a joy to ride again. I’m feeling a bit crappy tonight so I’ll give the ride tonight a miss and head out on Sunday. Tomorrow is guaranteed to rain but only 80% chance on Sunday. I’ve got a special work event in the city on Sunday so weather permitting I’ll ride in. Fingers crossed the rain holds off (not going to hold my breath)

Hahaha ok so about half an hour after my last entry I unplugged my headlight from the charger and put it on my bike then tested my tail light charge. Straight away I thought “well I’ve turned the light on now. I may as well go for a ride!”

Up the hill I went and although I didn’t use my speedo app(phone battery was almost flat) it was MUCH easier. I actually went up pretty easily in second gear not first. Turned around at the light and came home

Good ride today.

I rode into work this morning. 28km and a nice easy steady pace because I didn’t want to arrive all sweaty and smelly. Worked all day (freezing cold; spent most of the day shivering) and rode home. I got 8kms out and realised I left my backpack at work. Turned around and rode back only to find that someone had picked it up and when I rang them they were at the exact location where I stopped and turned around! Anyway they came back and dropped it off for me and I rode back. 45km back because of my little detour and a much slower average pace because
A) I took a slightly different route,
B) it was blowing a gale either a 90degree angle across me or a headwind the entire trip
C) it was bucketing down and I was soaked to the bone; I actually had to stop for a while because I couldn’t even see 3 feet in front of ne
D) I didn’t pause the speedo while I was waiting for my backpack to return

All up though a great day; I got to meet lots and lots of dogs and have a play and I’m very glad I rode in despite the weather).

No ride tonight. I put my cycling shoes in the wash last night and forgot to dry them ... I’ll do some extra resistance training instead.

In other news for the 3rd consecutive day I’ve weighed in at <86kg. This morning was 85.1.

I’ve started wearing my Fitbit again so I can track my heart rate and my calves are starting to show some decent definition. 3BBBD82A-C0A2-456C-9D2B-BB520CB9D23C.jpeg

^^^

Just got curious 43cm calves and 65cm quads. Probably by far the heaviest part of my body!
