Cowboy's Diary

I have been under the weather this past week or so. I went to boot camp twice last week but didn't run. It is hard to run when you can't breathe because of a head cold. This past Monday, I had to get a needle in the eye. I had a detached retina a long time ago so I have to get a needle in the eye every 4 months. I know FUN FUN FUN-lol. I will never get used to that.

My food intake has been good. I allow myself a piece of dark chocolate every night after supper. It is my little treat. It is amazing how much I look forward to it and how much it stops me from cheating through the day.

I haven't signed up for another run yet but I had better do that. I find if I have a goal with my running- I get out there and do it. If I don't have a goal run then I have a tendency to skip runs. Funny I LOVE to run but won't do it just to do it.

That is it for now. Keep fighting the fight!

No one should ever "get used" to getting a needle stuck in their eye. EVER. haha!

I do the same thing! It does work. :)

Needles and eyes do NOT belong in the same sentence. EVER. Also: I'd willingly become a vampire to be invisible to mirrors and cameras. Added advantage: craving blood can never add up to as many calories as craving chocolate.

The thought of a needle in my eye really horrifies me! EEK!
Smart thinking re the square of dark chocolate. We have our Sunday night sweets treats

Weird thing about a needle in the eye is that they put in freezing drops. Now the drops only freeze the outside of the eye. Once the needle goes in- you feel every bit of it-lol.

Yeah Jen- I don't know how you can get used to it. I tell my doctor every time I see him that I would rather go to the Proctologist than see him-LMAO.

LaMaria- you're right blood probably does have fewer calories but it can't taste as good.

Cate- Sunday night sweet treats sounds interesting. Do you use it like a cheat night? I know I don't overdo the chocolate ( well sometimes I have two pieces) as the added sugar just doesn't sit right with me. Makes me feel sick to my stomach- which is a good thing I guess.

I had a couple of shots in the eye as a preventative thing with diabetes. The thought of it was way worse that the reality of it. I just had a discomforting pressure (after they gave me numbing drops of course)
Not anywhere near the worst thing I ever had. And if you are wondering that would be passing a kidney stone. I was laying in the bathroom floor writhing around on that one.

Hi Cowboy! I read some bits of your diary, and I must say that I am impressed by what you achieved! I see that you lost a lot, even before starting this diary in 2011. How have you managed to maintain your weight in the last 5 years? What are your goals now?

The Sunday night treats platter varies, but isn't huge. Most nights we have a small fruit platter each, but on Sundays, we add about 6 squares of dark chocolate, a small piece of GF slice, maybe a GF ginger snap & a little piece of licorice. It varies, depending on what I have. I find if G cooks something delicious we are inclined to eat it until it is gone (over the next few nights) , whereas, if we have some good-quality sweet things hidden away in the pantry, we eat them sparingly, mostly just on the Sunday night. Nothing feels forbidden then.

I hide in the back row too. Usually try to hide my big head in behind someone else's-lol.
I need proof I was there sometimes for work-related activities, so I do try to get my big head in there (no, seriously, my noggin is flipping huge, according to "One Size Fits All" hats, I'm nobody).

Regarding the conversation about needles in eyes and detached retinas, you people are monsters, ain't nobody gotta hear about that! I'm gonna fall out of my chair!

Hi Tri,

Maintenance is hard. I think it is harder than losing the weight. Eating right and exercising and you want the scale to stay basically the same( hard to do as you get no reward with a lower number on the scale) . I did over the last 5 years gain about 30 back. It was a slow and gradual process and I suggest not waiting until you gain 30 pounds to get back on track. I think 10 pounds then get back to it again. I have lost that 30 now just recently and am in a good place.

Goals now are different than they were 5 years ago. I am a runner ( since I lost all the weight and turned 50) and most of my goals involve that. I enter fun runs and runs for charity and have been doing some different ones like the City Chase and the Insane Inflatable. I think I would try a Spartan run or a Tough Mudder. I have started doing boot camps in preparation for that. Trying to get leaner and stronger.

I actually would like to do a triathlon. The only real problem is the swimming. I almost drown when I was little so I am scared of the water. I can swim just not very well. That is the only thing holding me back. That being said as a goal I would like to build on my swimming skills and try a triathlon- it is on my bucket list. I would also like to run a full marathon- another bucket list item.

Sounds like you have this in hand. If you treat yourself one night a week then you are right nothing feels forbidden and you have something to look forward to when those other temptations come through the week-lol. Besides when you only have a little bit you can afford to buy the good stuff-haha.

I have a big noggin too. In fact for my size- I am 5'11" or so - my hands are huge and my head is XXL. One size does not fit all-lol.

I´m of average height and while I need the smallest glasses (for my eyes, not beer) I need the largest size hats the ladies´ departments have to offer. Super freak...

I also have a big noggin!
I think it's awesome cowboy that you are so into fitness now. You may just inspire me to find some new challenge. Right now, getting out of my chair is a big enough challenge, but I need to move more. I have been feeling really lazy lately & I don't like it. I'm with you on maintenance being really hard. It's harder maintaining your focus. Exercise may be the key then I think.

Thanks, Cate. I think I NEED to be into fitness otherwise I am going to slip and revert to old ways. My energy levels go down and up but even on a bad energy day I still try to do something. I think for maintenance getting up and moving is going to be paramount to me continuing at this weight.

That isn't freakish. We are all different shapes and sizes and I don't think there is a diet for head size-lol. My oldest son when he was little said he had a big head to hold his big brain-lol.
