Getting up early to work out, amazing determination.

So you do this before breakfast?

Did I miss something? Hemorrhoid spam? Please tell me there was a picture. Like, a CLOSE UP picture.

Anyway, I have now completed one week of eating low carb, drinking nothing but water and exercising every day. I don't know how much weight I've lost, because I'm not weighing myself right now, but you can see that I've lost weight. I can also feel it too, which is equally as important. This is hard, but I'm going to stick with it. My short-term goal is to get through the entire month of April while doing this. I figure if I can get a full three or four weeks of this routine under my belt I can easily be down a decent amount of weight.

Also, I should be ordering my bike this week. We have a reward system at work where employees (or residents) can fill out little slips of paper that are essentially a 'thank you' for something another employee has done - for instance, "Thanks for helping me carry a heavy bookcase to a resident's room" or "Thank you for taking a resident across the street (to the emergency room) for me" - the point of the reward system is to reward employees for going above and beyond their call of duty or doing something to help a teammate out that might not necessarily be their job. Each slip we get with our name on it rewards us with a point. Each point is worth $1.00. Once you accumulate enough points you can cash in your points for gifts cards from various places. I hardly ever cash mine in so I had quite a few built up. So, I cashed some in and got a couple of Amazon gift cards which I will be using to buy my bike this week. Woo hoo!!!

Baseball also starts today. Well, sort of. I've already been helping the league president coach his team during indoor practices for the past couple of weeks, but today is our first coach meeting where we find out who is on our team and what not. So, I'm pretty excited about baseball starting up again. That served as a big motivator for me last year when I was trying to lose weight and I'm sure it will do the same again this year.

I like the reward idea! Especially if people who are really pleasant to work with get to do things that are healthy for them. Have fun with the baseball!

No- no close-up pics :ack2:, but it was very funny!
It's great to hear that April is going well for you. That rewards system sounds like a smart idea. Getting a bike, coaching baseball, c'mon Summer!

So, I finally got my gift cards today and I ordered the bike I wanted. HOWEVER...it's OUT OF STOCK now!!! NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOO!!!

That´s too bad, when will it be available again?

"At least 30 days" according to the email. But, it doesn't matter. Becaaaaaause...

I went to Meijer today (it's a Walmart kind of store for those who don't know) to do a little grocery shopping and to look at some athletic clothes, and while I was there I was like, "Eh, what the hell...let's go look at bikes and bike stuff." And, what do I find? Oh, just one of the bikes I wanted...AND it was on sale...for only $99...AND it was already assembled so I didn't have to put it together.

Sooooo, guess who has a biiiiike?

WELL, my bike is ALREADY broken. I was riding my bike from work to baseball practice the other night and I felt my left pedal come loose. No big deal, right? I'll just tighten it up when I get home, problem solved!!! Nope. I didn't even make it home. I left baseball practice and about 30-seconds later I felt a big "pop" in my pedal and my entire crank arm (the arm that sticks out of the bike, the part to which your pedal is attached) came loose. Both of my crank arms ended up point the same direction and I was immediately like...

...only I didn't say "fudge."

Anyway, Jen had to come pick me up. I THINK it's fixable but I'm not entirely hopeful that I'll be able to repair it. You see, I did a little research after I got home and found out that bikes purchased from big chains stores (like mine) are often made of cheaper aluminum parts. That doesn't surprise me - I wasn't expecting a hardcore bike for the price I paid. Anyway, I found that a lot of adults (kids can get away with it because they're smaller and don't put as much pressure on their pedals) had to either replace their bolts with lockbolts (because the cheap aluminum parts had stripped) OR they had to purchase a higher quality crankset altogether. So, we'll investigate further this weekend and see what happens.

Oh man, that sucks!!! Hope you get to fix it soon, and, as Cate I'm happy you're still in one piece.

Just coz you don't have a lot of money to spend on a bike doesn't mean that it should fall apart a few rides in. So annoying!

So, I have to buy a new crankset. The bolt is completely stripped and the crank arm is damaged as well. Now, I SHOULD be pissed off buuuuut...my bike only cost me $99 so I can't be that upset about it. This is the way I look at it - I paid $99 for my bike and I'm getting what I paid for, so I have to expect some hiccups every once in a while. It just so happens my first hiccup was TWO RIDES AFTER I BOUGHT MY BIKE!!!

ANYWHO...I'm researching new cranksets and figuring out which is going to the best bang for my buck. I'll have it fixed soon and be back on my bike sooner than later.

In the meantime, I've had a shitty week. I've been off-track and have taken a step backward. That's the bad news. The good news - Jen and I are BOTH getting on track tomorrow and making a team effort to get healthier. It's weird, but when we try do this on our own we inevitably fail. However, when we work TOGETHER we do sooooo well. So, that's what we're doing starting tomorrow. Together, we are going to do this.

***EDIT***

Jen is the best person I have ever met in my entire life. Not only has she given me beautiful companionship, a wonderful marriage and two amazing kids...she has also given me back my youth. I mean, I NEVER would've imagined myself, especially at 34 years old, riding a bike and having the opportunity to spend time on a baseball field. But, with Jen, I have both. I'm riding a bike and coaching baseball, both of which make me feel young. I know I'm not "old" but I am certainly not very young anymore. However, Jen's love and support with my adventures (namely baseball and biking) has made me feel like a kid again. How cool is THAT, you know? I mean, to have someone in your life that makes you feel like a kid again is unreal...absolutely unreal.

Thank you, honey.

Thank you for keeping me young. Thank you for KEEPING me.

Chef, I think it's great that you know how lucky you are & are prepared to let us all know that. Some people go through life never meeting that "right" person, but you & I got lucky

Together, we are going to do this.

Go Chef and Jen!! :)
