From alpha testing to the QUERCUS 200

I'm so glad you seem to be feeling better. Been worried about you the last couple weeks. I know how discouraging it can be to feel like nothing is making it easy for you to stick to the plan.

So glad your back is calming down!

Friendly tip! if you can find honey made local to you, it will contain the pollens from your area. Having a small amount a day could build up an immunity toward the pollens causing your allergies. May help to lower the medicines and antihistamines. Well done for keep going

Thanks Delsid and welcome to the forum!
Thanks Cory! I appreciate the concern.
Thanks LaMa! Me too!
Thanks Daniel! I don't eat much honey, but I'll keep it in mind.

So the allergies are much better despite being outdoors a lot this weekend. I think whatever was killing me must be mostly through producing pollen.

I had ups and downs with the back this weekend, but that's because I was really active. I got gardening, yard work, and some heavy cleaning done as well as my runs and some weight lifting. Food was not great, but I'm going to be back on track today and going forward.

Thanks for all of the support! I'm in a much better place now!

Thanks Cate!

So I ran rather quickly last night so I could do some gardening before dark. I was bent over planting peas right after the run and that did a number on my back. I'm resolute in staying positive and active. Resting didn't help so I'm going to keep moving and see what happens. I'll try to avoid all the bending over. I have a little wheeled seat to help me garden. I should have used it to plant the peas, but it wasn't a problem while running or when I started planting.

I did better with food yesterday although I snacked on too many pistachios. I'm shooting for daily improvement with my diet and back.

Hopefully you can at least fight the back to a draw for now. Keep plugging away at the diet and hopefully the recent improvements in how you're feeling will continue.

You may want to try and confine your activity to half hour bursts if it's possible. Do the same amount of activity but just put longer breaks in between. Maybe that'll help.

Thanks Vee, that's good advice. I've run more and done yard work the last two days. I think activities that don't directly hurt my back help it. My nights have been my problem time for eating. I'm trying to limit myself to dinner and nothing else tonight. At this point I'm working on making it through 1 day. I'll report back tomorrow.

I'm so glad I don't have allergies. Jen has allergies and our kids soooometimes have issues with them, and I just sit here as they're coughing and sniffling going, "Man, I'm glad that's not me."

Hopefully the new meds continue to help. Kudos for not letting your illness get in the way of your streak.

I hope your feeling a bit better again today. I find myself expecting it, really, as you're awesome at analyzing and redirecting your behavior.

Thanks for the welcome! :) I'm hoping your back will start to behave itself and that it went well the other day.

Thanks everyone!

LaMa I tried to make a big measurable goal to really get moving and it immediately blew up in my face. I decided to make a set 32 week marathon training and weightloss plan. I was going to stay on track with the modest running schedule and weightloss for 6 weeks and then shell out $100 for a marathon in November. Friday was day one of that plan with a modest 2 mile run that wreaked havoc on my back. It's so damn delicate and it has been a month.

I barely got my mile run yesterday for day 500 of the runstreak, but I did it.

The new plan:
I'm going to limp along with slow minimum runs until they feel ridiculously easy and then I'm going to increase the distance a tenth of a mile at a time and repeat. I'm going to keep my weightloss goal of arriving at 198 by November and if the back will stop giving me grief in time I will do the November marathon. 16 weeks is a normal marathon training schedule which gives me 15 weeks to get better.

IF I can't manage the incremental increases in mileage without increasing my back pain then I will end my streak with a concrete plan of rest, recovery, and an adaptive return to running.

Weightloss without the running is so damn hard, but I have to figure it out. I've gained weight over the past month and that needs to be reversed. I can still hit 198 by November at less than 2 pounds a week. That's the goal. 254.8 yesterday morning is just shy of a 10 pound rebound.

I'll share the sentiment that I'm trying to drill into my head. Just because your broken doesn't mean you're not strong. My progress will be my proof of that. It's way past due to start that trip to onderland and with the weightloss the back will get better. Hopefully I haven't already gone beyond the point of no return with my back and the runstreak, but if I have that's okay. I'll be just as happy to hit day 500 again.

Thanks for being there for me WLF friends! I was going to say "for having my back", but I don't even want it. ;)

We'll always be with you Q. You will figure it out & we'll support you. That's how it goes xoxo

Q, have you considered taking a short break from running completely? You seem to really be having a problem fixing this back issue and I wonder if some solid rest wouldn't help you. Running can be pretty jarring for the joints and the back. Maybe if you took just a couple weeks off it would help. I completely understand not wanting to break your streak, but what if taking a break really helped your issues? I only ask because I've done basically the exact same thing before. I hurt my back and kept horseback riding for months afterwards. It wasn't until I quit for a little while that I saw improvement in my back.

Thanks Cate! It always nice to hear.

Thanks LaMa! I'm still working on the food part.

I consider it every day Cory. Outside of running there isn't a discernable relationship between how much I do and how much I hurt. That could mean that quitting the streak would make no difference or it could mean that running is the problem. I started running because it was the only thing I did that didn't bother my back. Maybe that's changed, but if I give up my streak and the back keeps hurting I'll have a tough time with that. So I stubbornly ease forward to see if I can fix it and keep running. If I get to a new low weight and it's still bothering me it will be time to take a break. I might hang it up before then if I think I need to.

In short, it's sound advice and I should probably listen to it, but I'm a stubborn jackass.

:iagree: with all of the above :D
