Whats the best way to take care of facial skin?

i have oily skin, and wash my face w/ soap & water multiple times throughout the day...still, i get random pimples that pop out & are simply annoying because im 18 years old, and thought i was already "through" the stupid middle school pimple face thing....

What types of cleansers & soap should I use so they dont appear & so I can keep my skin healthy, thanks.

Clean and Clear makes a deep action cleanser that has been working well for me. Just was your face every opportunity you can and stay away from sugary foods. I also take green tea supplements that have also been helping keep my face clear.

Overwash???? I dont get it...

Also, i dont think theres any proof that sugary foods create this problem, especially since for a few months now, ive been dieting & exercising a lot.

Some soaps aren't very good for your face. You need to work out what type of skin type you are (oily/dry) so that you can use the most appropriate product.

I use a product called cetaphil as it is formulated for sensitive skin. It is by far the best product I have used (along with their moisturizer). I used it religiously while on roaccutane (acne medication) which completely dried my skin out.

Just make sure you wash your face after exercise or sweaty periods and try to keep your hands away from your face and you should be fine. If they are just superficial pimples, then you can still get them at 30 years old!

BTW, candy/sweets do not cause pimples!

the reason it would get worse with overwashing your face is that your constantly wiping off all the oil on the face making it drier and making the glands produce more to compensate. Try not to touch your face too much either.

Go to a chemist/drug store and get a specific cleanser for your face and to complemnet this preventive measure get some cream to apply directly to the pimples..

Stop eating so much saturated fats and stuff like that.

Completely wrong, fat consumption has nothing to do with spots. Spots are caused by hormonal imbalance and over active sebaceous glands

With regards to overwashing read Matts post below. Also sugar has no effect on acne (good or bad)

Good response, I'd also add that because you're 18 you probably still have fluctuating hormone levels that can make this worse. If the spots are causing you problems and don't respond well to store bought treatments then ask your doctor to refer you to a dermatologist. I had bad acne until I was about 24, I had to be put on accutane which was the only thing that worked. It's got loads of side effects though so I would recommend unles sthe problem is severe and causing you real problems

Good luck with getting it cleared up :)

Wrong! Saturated fats can definately cause more zits and what we refer to as greasy skin. EFAs as can be obtained from flax seeds, nuts and oils help your skin stay acne free.

What's your diet consist of Enz?

Nope, I'm right, read this, My dermatologist told me the same

Fat can only cause spots if you rub it into your skin. Eating fat doesn't cause spots or greasy skin, it's a health myth

Sorry CCR, but I don't buy that.

I'm not saying that acne/breakouts couldn't be caused by hormonal inbalances, allegies, etc. I'm saying that it can also be cause by a lacking in EFAs (which, oddly enough, could help with the before mentioned problems). Do you seriously doubt that a lacking in Omega3s and Omega6s can cause excessively dry or greasy skin?

I don't think you understood what I said, I said that eating fats doesn't cause them, which they don't. I could shove 10 Big Macs down my throat and it wouldn't make my skin greasy, it would make me fat.

You're talking about a lack of EFA's which I didn't refer to at all. You're not going to lack EFA's just because you eat a lot of saturated fat

Not true at all. Too many saturated fats in a diet can inhibit the functions of EFAs. Like keeping the skin healthy.

Why isn't there a 'tail between my legs smilie'? Lol

However, although trans fats and sat fats inhibit EFA metabolism I think it's wrong to associate fat intake with acne as you'd still need an EFA deficiency for it to have a negative effect on your skin and buy saying that fat can cause spots it's more likely to make people cut too much fat out of their diet than get them to eat the right balance.

Eating sat fats doesn't mean you're gonna have an EFA deficiency however cutting fat out of your diet might do. Not to mention the fact that us men need our fats for testosterone production

Maybe we should just agree that the balance needs to be right :)

+rep for teaching me something new though :beerchug:
