Tips for bulking up for a tall skinny guy

hey, everyone, i am new here and i consider myself a beginner to the whole weight training thing. i am about 6'3 tall and weight about 164 lbs, so you can see, i need to put on some muscle and get big.

i have been trying to eat more, which is not as easy as it sounds. since i started, i have only managed to gain about 2 pounds in a month. what makes it more difficult is that i inherited my body type from my parents, also my somewhat weak digestive system from them, and i have fast metabolism. i am in college right now. my mom told me that i will naturally gain more weight when i get older. to be honest, i am not entirely convinced and don't want to wait for that many years.

I have been hitting the gym pretty frequently in the past month. I have yet to develop a consistent workout routine. i mainly focus on working out my upper body, especially chest, so i have been doing bench press, fly, dips, dumbbell press. i also pair up workout on other body parts with the main ones, like biceps, triceps, legs, back....i wouldn't say that i see no result from the past month but the result or the change is just not near what i hoped for. can any of you suggest a good routine for me to stick to for now, i would also appreciate any advices on workout and dieting in general

You need to work out the legs and Eat more. Half of your body is your legs so if you expect to add weight you need to add muscle to them.

First thing you need to get in order is that you need to realize that you need to eat more. Paired with a good diet of 3.5kcals+ and lifting weights will start you on the right track.

I might be able to help you, I was in the same boat as you about a year ago. In June last year I weighed about 168lbs at 6'2". I'd always been skinny and put it down to a fast metabolism.
Then I stopped making excuses, mainly because of what people on here told me. I now weigh 217 lbs 13 months later. It's embarrasing when I think back to the weights I started off lifting back then!

How I did it?
1) I ate about 500 calories over maintenance every day ( - follow instructions to get your calorie needs)

2) Compound lifts (bench, squat, dealift, rows), chins & dips and maybe a couple of iso's at the end if I have time. Start with a 3x10 routine as it's nice and easy for newbs. Avoid machines if you can

3) Get to bed on time and cut down on things that slow recovery like booze, weed and late nights

It's really simple but if you do that you will gain weight, the important thing is to stop making excuses about body shapes/types and just do it

It is true that once you get older about your early twenty's that your metabolism will slow down and you will be able to bulk up allot easier but this is also a curse if you aren't already into a healthy lifestyle as you will go from being a skinny kid to having a fat tummy like my brother :yelrotflmao:
