Ideal time for sleep

Night time works best for me

However, Sportacus swears by 8.08pm and not a minute later and if you ask me Sportacus should be the worlds spiritual leader, he's like Flyin Free and Chillen rolled into one ;)

time of day has nothing to do with when you should sleep really. the brighter the light, the more your body wants to stay awake...hence why most people sleep at night.

beyond that its more about consistency, so you create a wake/sleep cycle that your body easily follows, and getting enough sleep in one session. without long bouts of deep sleep, you won't get enough REM state and deep sleep levels, which will affect your mind and body negatively.

But ain't there a time period where your body gets its best sleep ?

why would there be? If we want we can turn our day and night upside down, like this summer, ive been going to bed at 2-3am and getting up in the afternoon :p The best time to sleep is set by YOU, its when your body is tiered and ready to sleep.

Not every hour of sleep is identical.

Sleeping during evening and night is most beneficial, and will recharge your body well.

eg. Sleeping from 10pm-6am is far, far better than sleeping from 2am-10am for example.

One hour of sleep doing late evening/middle of night, is equivalent to several hours in morning (after sunrise).

why is that? I dont think the time of the day matters at all, aslong as your tiered enough to sleep. Since the clock is a man made thing, i doubt theres any biological thing inside us that says "between this and then" is the best time to sleep.

Are you reffering to REM sleep? If so, you got the most REM sleep the later in your sleep, so if you sleep at night from lets say 11PM to 7AM around 5-7AM you have the longest periods of REM sleep.

Why is that? I honestly don't know :D

I'm 98% sure it's true though, let me see if I can find some info for you ;)

Though I could be wrong I don't know. I will go and find some stuff.

i can belive different times during the sleep can be more benificial than others like say half way inn, or something like that. But i dont think the actual time you sleep matters.

You get into REM sleep (the deepest level of sleep) i think it is 2 hours or 1.5 hours after you fall asleep. It only lasts a few minnutes, then you back down, then its another 2 or 1.5 hours (or whatever) then you get into rem sleep again, only this time it lasts longer, and so it continues until you wake up.

I had a look at REM on wikipedia, and it seems pretty interesting. Though I must confess, I lack the time to properly look into it.

In my quest to find some evidence as to what I said, I found this rather interesting page:

But yes, we need some kind of a sleep expert here 8)
