I need help with calories

ok, I used one of those calorie calculator sites.. I don't understand it though. One of them told me to
Eat 1697.85 Calories/day, so anyways do I subtract 500 from that to lose weight/to get abs?

heres my information: i'm 18, 5'7" and about 145 pounds, I want to be a 130 pounds and get my abs by losing weight because they are covered up with fat on my lower belly. I do eat good, but how do I know that I am burning more calories than I'm consuming? I run the track 3X a week and HIIT once a week. I read all of the stickies, and last week was the week I started eating healthy and cardiovascular excercise. I want atleast 8% body fat so.

hey sup man your trying to do something many of would like to do....get the abs gotcha. What do you mean by running the track? You gotta give a lil more info about it. Is it a regular jog are u sprinting at all, how long are you running for, how many laps are you doing things like that. If you would like you can cut the track out of your program and do HIIIT twice a week and maybe the track once a week so you are having to hardcore running days and one long distance jog on the track. Starting to eat healthy is the biggest thing. If you can develop 5-6 meal plan you will most deffinitly see progress. And yes you do subtract 500 calories from your regular calorie intake to start losing some weight as well. DEVELOP A MEAL PLAN BEFORE YOU START EVERYTHING CUZ DIET IS MOST IMPORTANT AND HARD TO MAINTAIN. YOU CAN DO IT THOUGH GOOD LUCK

I agree with Danny, the key is diet. I worry more about carbs than calories myself. Best thing is to burn more than you eat. Reduce your intake and watch the foods you do eat. Try low calorie, low carb and low fat foods till you get to where you want to be.

Sounds wrong, have you tried any others? I bet 1697 is a "lose weight" version for you. You want the maintain your weight calories. Online calcs are hard to trust. Its what I have trouble with also, because it changes as you lose weight. Its really a science to find your exact, I'm not patient enough to get that into it.

You need to mix lifting with all that cardio bud.

I agree with C-MayheM, sounds too low to me. I weigh 138lbs and am about the same height and my maintance cals are somewhere between 1800-2000. I can't remember exactly what the number is. Diet and timing is key though. I would also mix lifting in with the hiit that you are doing, and drop some of the long distance cardio and add hiit. You may seriously consider lifting then doing a 20min hiit session right after, or on your off days.

yeah I do weight training or as you want to call lifting. um I do HIIT like 2 or 3 times a week. like on my meals I do eat 5-6 meals a day. But I eat less.. like this morning around 8-9 or so I ate a bowl of frosted flakes and then like an hour ago I ate a PB&J sandwich with wheat bread. I eat like 1 thing every 2 hours.. is that too low? or do I need to eat more?

EDIT: I went from drinking soda pop and eating out everyday to eating home cooked meals. also going from eating once a day to eating 5-6 times a day.

I hope I see a drastic change in my body soon. :)

Well David thats good man, I respect you for making the effort to better yourself. You understand the general ideas of nutrition and fitness. As far as what to eat, you are still lost.

Are you not going to score a touchdown because a 50 yard gain is good enough? Fu<k you gotta go all the way, priorities priorities priorities

Yep. What he said. You've taken some big steps in not eating out and eating less, more often. And you probably will see some great changes if you keep it up. That said, pb&j and Frosted Flakes will only get you so far and definitely won't get you abs. It's hard to make such a huge overhaul to your diet, so maybe you tighten that stuff up later. Just know that with this diet (assuming the rest is similar) there is only so far you can go.

Good luck and congratulations.
