Chest Exercises

I was wondering what exercises are best to work on the pectoral muscles. I am 21, have DD breasts and they are already showing the signs of gravity. I have heard that building up the pectoral muscles can give an extra little boost, and so decided it was worth looking into. I am looking specifically for exercises I can do at home with limited equipment (i.e. free weights), but also have access to a gym so any suggestions at all would really be helpful.

I was referred to the following website by someone on THIS website:

It has every strength training exercise on there. It also shows a man performing the motions so you can actually SEE how the exercise is peformed.
(It will have exercises for chest)

bench press, incline bench press, decline bench press, flyes, pullovers and some bent rows to keep a balance of your pushing and pulling muscles. Don't forget deadlifts & squats/lunges/stepups & abs so you do not develop lower back problems later in life.

Megan,

I'm really not sure on how to instruct a women on working her pecs, but maybe some really light dumbell excercise's might be helpful. Such as fly's or maybe light bench press. Maybe get a Total Gym 1700 or something along that line. Push ups might help too. Good luck! Sorry, not much help.

Don't worry about doing "really light weights". Do weights that are challenging to do say 12-15 reps, then do a few sets of that. There's no way you'll get bulky without some illegal help, so don't worry about that!

Yeah, she needs to use those pink 3 lb. Jane Fonda dumbbells, so she doesn't hurt herself.

i have a small dog, a Corgi, and he will run around the house with my wife's old purple 5lb dumbbell.

if a 24lb dog can lift 5lbs, there's no reason a woman should limit herself to such a pitiful weight. :D

a woman has pecs just like a man, and should train em the same way.

I'm not sure pec training will do anything to lift the bossom though, as that's more an effect of the breast weight stretching the skin over time.

WOMEN R JUS 2 W34K TO L1FT NE KYND OF WEIGHTZ,,,,dun j00 kno dat?!?/ lolz!!1

All 1337sk337 language aside...

I do know that for women, training the pectoral muscles will usually create that illusion of fullness, and that firming up the muscles surrounding the breastbone will help prevent saggy tits.

Yeah, I am not looking for any miracles. I just figured that it couldn't hurt to try.
And thanks for all the advice!

Breast size also tends to be comparable to body fat percentage.
I'd also like to add that lots of women who lose weight while weight training have found a decrease in breast size, because they're simultaneously gaining muscle and losing fat (which breasts are basically).

USUALLY! Too bad not for me!! lol

Even when I'm at a very heavy weight, I'm still screwed!

Oh, I SO feel that. As I gained weight over the past 3-4 years, I swear, NONE of it when to my chest. Now if I lose some as I'm loosing bodyfat, that's just not fair!

If there is ANY possibility of pecs exercises creating that "illusion of fullness" I'm all about it!!! :p

Megan,

Unfortunately natural DD's are in a losing battle against gravity. Make sure you wear a good supportive bra to fend off evil gravity for as long as possible. If you are at all overweight, weight loss is also a good way to take a bit of the sag out of your bust (although there is very little change in my own bra size when I gain and lose weight, my boobs just look better when I am in shape - I guess everything doesn't looks saggy, I dunno . . .).

I, too, recommend bench presses and flies to give your bust some fullness on the top of your breasts, and thus make them look less saggy since gravity is pulling the bulk of your breasts down (does that make any sense?).

I would also highly recommend working your back and shoulders. As a very well endowed 37 year old, I can tell you that a good strong back not only looks freaking great, but will fend off mid and lower back pain caused by the "akward" pull of gravity.

Are dips or reverse dips good?

and is it true that bench press is not the best for you unless you are a body builder? I would love to do the bench press (with dumbells though) for the chest instead of dips. I do not really feel my chest in the dips.

Megan, if you have health insurance, and if they are cause a back ache, you may want to consider a breast reduction.

Ok, well, here's my $0.02 worth...

There's not much you can do. The breast tissue sits on top of the muscle, but contains no muscle. Much of what you're experiencing is simply gravity stretching the skin, so you'll want a good support bra to take the tension off the up side of the breasts.
