Morning Run...

One of the hardest things for me to do anyday, is wake up in the morning. I understand that running in the morning, before eating anything, is the fastest and most effective way of burning off stored fat.

What do you guys/girls do to motivate yourselves to wake up AND run:confused: ?

What is "hard"?
If you can do it then do it.
If you cant then run before bed.

running or weight training before bed means that any calories eaten in your last meal will heal your muscles rather than be stored as fat.

Like yourself I find it impossible to train 1st thing. Beofre I train I have to get up and have a good breakfast and wait an hour before I do anything. My perfect time for training is about 4pm when im not working.

Morning cardio isn't for everyone. If you can't do it in the morning then try and do it 2 hours after one of your 5-6 meals. Most people just have a hard time doing it later on in the day and feel if they get it out of the way its done so to speak. Good cardio is good cardio. There are pro and cons for doing it at anytime of the day, but getting it done is all that matters. :)

if you are running for the purpose of fat loss, running mid day just wont be as effective as running in a fasted state. You can still get some benefits of cardiovascualr exercise, but as far as fat oxidzation.. not so much. it will take a while to burn out the calories and then go after the glycogen, by the time they are depleted you might have already been running as long as you would like to.

If you are looking for motivation to wake up, ask yourself are you happy with your current self? Are you content to do things half assed and see half ass results? Or do you want to get up, get the thing done and benefit from your hard work? It's all up to you. I hope you get the motivation. Good luck!

That saves me some typing time :D

Personally, I am a great exponent of fasted cardio. I am most definetly not a morning person however, far from it.

Keep your pace nice and low when training fasted, remember your body is struggling for fuel.

The big thing for me that I see here is that you want to run I assume, not long after waking up. Bear this in mind. After running your muscles will be 10% longer than they are at total rest. Whilst you sleep, muscle contracts by up to 10%. So add two and two together, that if you get up and go straight away your muscles could be up to 20% from where they optimally should be.

The answer? It is oh so important to stretch out throroughly before going running. First thing in the morning more so for the reason stipulated above. You can pick up no end of stupid, persistent niggling injuries if you don't. And these can keep you away from fully effective training for far too long.

It's generally considered good to have your high carb meals early in the day. I usually have a bowl of oatmeal (regular, none of that instant stuff) and some egg whites. and maybe a peice of whole wheat toast

I can relate to the hardest part of your day is waking up. I'm definitely NOT a morning person, generally speaking. After reading this thread I decided I was going to go for a morning run today. HA! I woke up early and was so tired that before I knew it I fell asleep for a few more hours. The good news, I actually DID go for a run after I woke up the second time and ate some food. I waited about 50min after eating before going for the run. I felt so much more awake and energized than had I not went for that run. Just keep your chin up and try your hardest to improve not only your body, but your mind and your own habits as well. Good luck! Trust me, if I can do it and I am one of the worst morning people I know, then you can do it too! :D

fat loss is much more efficient if cardio is done BEFORE you eat in the morning. Especially if your first meal is high in carbs, you are throwing away a good oppurtunity to burn fat as fuel.

Early Morning Workouts

Two secrets I have found to early morning workouts:
1. go to bed early! You need to get enough sleep first (and always)! You can't party until 2AM and then get up and workout at 6!
2. Make it a habit. Force youreslf to do it for a few weeks and pretty soon it becomes a habit and you will want to do it that time of the day.

Personally I wouldn't consume anything but water for the hour after your run.

I'll usually have somthing like oats and yoghurt, or white omellette and bagel, or even pasta and veg. Basically 'carb-loading' my day.

Its not easy, thats for sure. I am definitly NOT a morning person. I have a cross-trainer literally a few feet from my bed and I still don't manage it everyday! My main motivation is the same as all my training, to further my progress and get to where I want to be :)

Plus, it gives me an energy boost at the start of the day.

Awesome

Now I know I'm not the only one w/ this 'niggling' issue. Anyways, thanks for all of your opinions.

Also, upon doing some reading, the best time to eat is about 30-60 minutes after the fasted, morning run. Running in this state will speed up a persons metabolism for the next 7 hours of the day... eating carbs (carb loading) will replenish the glycogen in your muscles for the rest of the day, giving the energy you will need for whatever daily activities.

Thanks again.:)

On the advice of a forum member in here I switched my jogging to the morning, when I first woke before eating.

I love the feeling of wellbeing it gives me all day, and I have noticed some results -even after a week.

Question is though, how long after exercise should I leave it until eating again?
