ZoneGuy's Diary

OK - this is my first post and I'm dedicated to actually losing weight this time and trying to post every day. I weigh 194 pounds (just stepped on the scale) and want to get back down to 165lbs. I'm 6'2" tall, but have gained about 20 pounds since I started my new job and moved to New York a couple years ago. This is particuarly frustrating as I lost all that weight a few years ago on Atkins (which DID work for me, but I gained it all + back).

I don't cook at home as my apartment is really small and my schedule unpredictable so I started the Zone Chefs diet about a month ago - I have my meals delivered 5x a week and take the weekend off. It is really expensive, but I just don't have the time/schedule (or dishwasher) to do my own cooking.

Honestly, think I gained about 5 pounds the first month I was on it b/c I never had the willpower to not eat extra food (especially if I drink) and I just stopped working out and would binge on tons of Nachos or Pizza on the weekend.

So it ends now! I'm going to the gym and will try to report back every day what I'm eating and on my progress. I appreciate any support - I will need it! Look forward to meeting others in the forum!! :)

Thanks for your support cinderelly and pinkydolly! I'm a lawyer, so often eating at the desk and don't know when I'll be home most of the time.

I think I'll post what my meals are every day and any exercise. So I'll start with today (I'll just copy the menus they sent me and tell you if the food sucks or not):

Breakfast: Blueberry Scone with Lemon Ricotta (very good and filling)

Lunch: Greek Chicken & Goddess Salad with Oregano Dressing, Peper, Olives and Feta (pretty good, don't nothing goddess about it though ;)

Snack 1: Mango Mousse with Tropical Fruits (eh, ok)

Dinner: Fresh Turkey with Plum Tomato & Cilantro Pesto, Lentil Pilaf Blend, & Winter Succotash (very good, I just finished eating it, but still hungry)

Snack 2: Yurky Snack & Sofrito Vinaigrette with Yucca & Turkey Bacon (have not eaten this yet, but it looks ok)

Exercise: Ran/walked 4.25 miles

So I stepped on the scale this morning and it said 191! I'm not sure if this is real weight lost though or simply the time of the day I weighed myself. 3 pounds in one day seems not quite right. I'll update with my meals/exercise later tonight.

Thanks Soon2be! We can all do it!

I think I'm going to skip exercise tonight - just got home and it is 8:30 - left my menu at work so I can't give details of meals, but here it is without the menu details:

Breakfast: Pumpkin Cream of Wheat with protein cream (good and pretty filing)

Lunch: Chicken Salad of some type (pretty good)

Snack 1: (left whatever it was at work so I ate a Zone Bar - strawberry and yogurt was pretty gross but the only kind the store had)

Dinner: Corned Beef (have not eaten it yet)

Snack 2: Cupcake (have not eaten it yet - want to skip it because I haven't worked out, but probably won't)

Also had a small iced coffee - not supposed to drink coffee on this diet but I NEED the caffeine!

Had an easy and yet stressful day at work - will probably have a couple cups of tea tonight before bed.

Exercise: just walking to the subway, bank and home (same as everyday, probably about 25 minutes total).

Really hoping to keep off those 3 pounds the scale said I lost tomorrow - we'll see what happens....

So I weighed myself this morning and still 191! I'm happy not to have put on any more weight, but kind of bummed more didn't come off since I was a bit hungry yesterday....I ended up eating half the cupcake at 2am and the other half for a quick breakfast at 8am (not enough sleep.....) - may have to have some coffee today.....

OK so today Jan. 10.

Morning Weight: 191

Food (again I forgot my menu at work)

Pre-Breakfast (didn't have time to make it before work) - half of yesterday's cupcake (I ate the other half at like 2am - couldn't resist and it was awesome)

Breakfast - ricotta cheese, half boiled egg, pita bread and a strip of canadian bacon (yum and filling)

Lunch - chicken salad (I think) and egg salad - came with breadsticks but I didn't find them in my lunch pail until later so threw them out (Ok)

Snack 1: Bavarian Cream Donut (to die for so good - LOVED IT and scarfed it down!!)

Dinner: Pork with spicy rice and cabbage (actually pretty good - I had some hesitations)

Snack 2: a chocolate cookie (Haven't eaten it yet but it looks great)

Coffee: about three little cups throughout the day (I mean VERY LITTLE cups - work supplied and the coffee wasn't good, but I needed it)

Alcohol: None

Exercise: very proud of myself today - I ran/walked 4.5 miles (this is an all time record!!! - it took me 55 minutes, but it said I burned 535 calories)

Mood: I'm very very tired, had to get up at 7:30am today (I usually get up at about 9:30) and I worked out hard, legs hurt, body tired, and I am still a bit hungry honestly - think I might eat that cookie soon.....I am glad to have this journal, it keeps me honest and in line - whenever I think about cheating I know I will have to report it to you all here.....here's hoping to some more weight off tomorrow!!!!

Thanks for all your support!!!

Hey ZoneGuy :) You seem to have a ton of motivation, good for you! Thats the best way to do it- you can't decide to start a diet until you want to lose the weight... I guess we all have our breaking points, lol. Your food sounds really good, and your workouts are awesome, too. No way could I get up at 7:30am though, heccckkk no. I work out at about 11pm, just the best time to do it- I'm able to sleep better after I work out, and I don't hafta worry bout tons of people at the gym :)
Anyways, have a great day, keep up the awesome work!

Thanks Jess!! It is so come on the board and get support. :) I got on the scale this morning and it said 189!!! I was pretty supprised - again, who knows, it might just be a fluke, but I was pretty happy. I think my body is probably just adjusting right now to the new diet and the new exercise routine. I'm a bit worried about the weekend though - that will be the real test to see if I can control the eating b/c I don't get my meals delivered on the weekends....

Turning out to be a busy day today....

Disaster...

So last night I went out with my sister and skipped the zone meal I had in my bag - I was very good about eating portions of a cobb salad, but then we started drinking vodka martinis and you know where that goes....went to see a friend's band play (and they were awesome), but when I got home, I drunk ordered Pizza and ate like 4 slices!!!

Well fun night, but I need to get back with the program. I stepped on the scale this morning and it still said 189, but I think now that I've re-hydrated myself I probably weigh more than that <sigh>.

Back on Track

I never posted my meals for yesterday:

Friday Weight: 189 (probably due to dehydration from drinking the night before)

Breakfast: fruit cup, cottage cheese

Lunch: Salad with Chicken

Dinner: Turkey Goulash (delicious)

Snack 1: Cheesecake (snack from the day before - sooo good)

Didn't eat my second snack

Exercise: ran 5 (YES FIVE!!) miles - this is an all time record - burned about 600 calories at the gym.

Alcohol: None - drank tea after the movie

Went to see Notes on a Scandal yesterday - good but so creepy....

TODAY:

Weight: 189 (still holding)

Breakfast: Kashi GoLean - dry though, ran out of milk

Going to go get some coffee now. I really hope this weight can hold throughout the weekend - going out drinking tonight with some friends and that always gets me, also going to dinner with my sister and no meals are delivered on the weekend - but I am going to have willpower to eat anything crazy. I am so happy that I've lost 5 pounds this week and REALLY want to keep it off going into next week.......

-ZG

OK, I just had to laugh at the expression "drunk ordered pizza"

Oh man....isn't it amazing how best laid plans are set aside once we add vodka? Or Wine, or tequila or beer! LOL

All in all though ZG, it looks like you're doing great!

Thanks M2M!!! I really appreciate the support. I was MIA over the weekend, but still thinking about the diet - it was much more difficult to stay focused and not overeat, but I kept thinking about the 5 pounds I'd lost last week so I tried not to eat too much (drinking was another story though though ;) - partied it up a bit too hard, but overall had a fun weekend and took Monday off (so it was a nice long weekend!!).

I was SURE I was going to gain weight, and had not weighed myself since last Friday and today I stepped on the scale and it said 187! I was very surprised!

I have a business lunch tomorrow at an Italian place so it will be tough to stick to the diet, but I'll try my best - It is with my boss and I would feel weird ordering something like a salad at this nice restaurant - I'll have to see if I can find something healthy, but not obvious like a salad....

Ran 5 miles again today - at about 6.0miles/hour so was very proud of myself again (though I didn't exercise last weekend....)...

Here's hoping to keeping the weight off tomorrow. Thanks for all your support everyone!!!! :)

Oh my gosh, turkey goulash? That sounds AMAZING!! Actually makin me a lil' hungry, lol...
Congrats on your 5miles! I'm so jealous of you guys that can run, lol. I suck at running. I'm sure I could do it, I just hate it
Have fun at the restaraunt with the boss! Have yummies for all of us haha!

Today - Wednesday January 17, 2006:

Weight - morning weight of 185! - yes I am surprised - we will see if this holds...

Exercise - went to the gym - burned 450 calories, tired though from my run yesterday....

Woke up early - went to a meeting (was late - woops!) and then to lunch - good day, my landlord even agreed to turn up the heat and fix my sink!!

Menu for today:

Breakfast: Banana Nut Bread & Peanut Butter Ricotta (pretty good - bread a bit dry)

Lunch: Went out to eat - had a cobb salad (sooo delicious) - I probably ate too much of it, but no dressing...and some wedding soup.

Snack 1: Szechuan Chicken with Sesame Eggplant (decent)

Dinner: Certified Black Angus Sirloin Steak & Tarragon Mustard Sauce, New Potatoes & Braised Winter Greens (good - seemed like a lot of food and I ate this after my workout)

Snack 2: Coconut Cupcake with Vanilla Coconut Icing (have not yet eaten this, but can't stop thinking about it!!!!!)

Overall, had a nice day. I'm feeling tired, my partner has been working non-stop for the past two weeks so I miss him, but it is giving me a lot of time to work out and no temptations to go out to dinner...I am quite shocked at how much weight I've already lost - I guess a little working out and not pigging out on nachos and pizza helps!! :D

Wow, that IS a good day... I remember the last time I rented, man, my landlord was conveniently "busy" everytime we tried to get something fixed. Do NOT miss that much

How was the cupcake???! Seriously, I'm debating not coming to your diary anymore cuz your food kicks my foods teensy weensy healthy ass! lol...

Something is wrong with my scale - today I stepped on it and it said 182, so I stepped on it again, still said 182 -this was amazing, stepped on it again - 184...184 again....182...then 184. So I'm going with 184 but am annoyed at the scale (and I just replaced the battery :p - Still happy with a 1 pound loss today!

Back again

Well...it has been a while and the Zone Diet didn't work out as well as planned....I ended up cheating on it all the time and my weight went back up to 197 and on top of that it was crazy expensive.

I've been on a new diet this month basically consisting of eating frozen lean cuisines....this strangely is easier to do than the Zone diet b/c I can eat whatever kind of meal I want and am not stuck with whatever they give me. Let's hope this holds. Still goal of 165....today....185 (20 pounds to go)!
