Zinc?

Here lately I've been taking the megaman vitamins from GNC, along with a 50mg zinc. I forgot the exact number but it comes out to like %600 the daily value of zinc...Is the dangerous? If it matters at all I am 16 and weigh about 170lbs...Also, does anyone recommend supplements or anything that would help with zits??

I wouldn't worry about the zinc.

As far as the zits go, ask your parents to take you to a dermotalogist. Today's medicine can usually completely cure acne, not something you have to deal with.

First post for me. I've been lurking for a while, and since I was just researching Zinc yesterday, I thought this was a good time to chime in.

You should actually be a little careful with Zinc. 50mg is a lot of Zinc, especially when you consider that it could be included in a multivitamin that you're also taking. Here's a link so you can read up yourself:

As far as acne is concerned, vitamins and minerals make it worse (at least for me). I take a One-a-Day type vitamin daily along with 250mg of Magnesium and 10mg of Zinc and I always have some acne, and it wasn't there before the supplements. I started 3mg a day of Creatine a week ago, and I swear that's making it worse too.

Zinc also helps us produce Testosterone, which aids in zit production among other things. Although, you probably shouldn't have any problem with your testosterone level at 16. You've probably got more than you know what to do with.

Anyway, just my $0.02. Feel free to read-up...

50mg is alot, probably more than you need but it shouldn't cause any problems. Does your multivitamin contain copper? copper can be depleted by zinc. My zinc pill contain 0.75mg copper for 15mg zinc.

Multivitamins, and especially zinc, normally reduce acne. There are different types of acne, so if you still have a problem with a decant strength multi and clean diet then go see a dermatologist.
