Yvonnes Journey

Hi, I'm starting a new way of life (not diet) beginning tomorrow and I wanted to post my concerns, successes and all else somewhere as well as read other's stories to provide me with some inspiration.

First, let me say that I lost 40 lbs on Atkins 2 yrs ago. I found that after several months on the plan I could not nor would I want to go the rest of my life not eating carbs so needless to say I fell off and regained 15 lbs. I am now at my heaviest since that time and am feeling the effects of gaining weight... tiredness, irritability, laziness.... THings I DON'T want to feel.

My way of life basically is to lower my intake of fat and to eat less calories during the day and most importantly exercise regularly which is something I haven't done recently always using something as excuse... Yes, I have a bad back (herniated disk, some arthritis) but I can't use that as my excuse any longer!

My biggest problem is drinking alcohol... which I do every weekend during the warmer months. I tend to do better on any eating plan in the winter because I cut back on my alcohol consumption by 50%. Since I rarely eat sugar or anything containing corn syrup, this is not my problem (no sweet tooth with exception of ice cream which I will have to stay away from).

So starting tomorrow I will incorporate 1/2 hour of pilates and cardio into my morning routine... Eat more salads, veggies and good dairy... leaner cuts of meat and lots of seafood. I will have my potato or rice or even whole-grain pasta but in moderation and limit to 3 times a week. Most of all, I must be consistent.

So I hope I can learn something by reading everyone else's postings and hope to contribute to other people.

Ooohh I know about that one ... I do like a tipple. When I was really cutting, I restricted myself to just two glasses of red wine most days, but even then, I would drink a little more wine at weekends. Just make sure that you include it into your calorie count, and avoid the worse drinks. I also suffer from bad backs - I've had one for four months or more.

Good luck on your journey, we are here to support each other!

Thank you for the support.

Yes, I put all calories, carbs, fat and protein into my daily journal and keep them in check. I know that my alcohol consumption will lessen as the summer dwindles away.... I tend to lose more weight in the colder months then warmer.

I started working out yesterday and OUCH is all I can say.... but it's a good "ouch" :)
