gaining strength/power, being fit healthy and trying not to take my workout to seriously! im interested in performance not aesthetics, however when i was 16 i wanted to gain mass also. i added an inch or so to my upper arms and a couple inches on my chest then lost it as i changed my training.
there is plenty of difference and the nervous system can provide large strength gains. how do you think powerlifters/weightlifters make strength gains when making a weight division? often they go up weight classes but not immediatly. a perfect example is lower arms which are often hard to increase mass on but easy to strengthen, depending on current strength level. last year i put atleast 60pds on my deadlift in around 6 months while actually dropping 5 pounds or so. granted im using low weight but you get the point.
doing heavy singles is not the same as doing a set of 15 reps. you except you dont have to gain weight to gain strength until a certain point right? i gave you a PERSONAL example.besides its only good if you have good relative strength anyway. example if tomorrow i weighed 150pds 20pds up and deadlifted 390pds 10pds up id have been better of not gaining the weight. i wont be as athletic etc. but if i weigh 150pds and deadlift 450pds that would be fine.
i almost always train singles with every exercise or if not i wouldnt go above 5 reps or so. HOW IS THAT ENDURANCE TRAINING?? i assume asking me if im a powerlifter was a joke question. thats my style of training yes but what MALE powerlifter has a max deadlift 380pds?
