Young Guy looking to get into shape.

Hi guys,

Id like to start off by giving you guys a little background information on myself. Im a 23 year old male from the north east of England. I am 5 foot 10 and weigh 10.6 Stone. All through my life i have been skinny with very little muscle. Recently (the reason i am unsure) i have started putting weight on around my stomach. This is not exactly a bad thing for me as it has made my body "Bulk out" a little bit so i do not look as skinny. My problem is that i now have a small amount of fat around my stomach and the area on my sides

I have just started working out in my home after buying myself some Cast Iron weights. Me and a couple of friends work out every Monday Wednesday and Friday. So far all we do is Weight workout. I do not do any Cardio as of yet. Next week i am starting to do 20 minutes of Cardio 2 times a week (the reason im only doing two times a week is because i have a job that takes up a lot of my time).

The reason i have joined this forum is basically to get some advice on the best way to lose the weight around my stomach area while still working on gaining muscle. Because of my Weight workout i am eating lots of protein and carbohydrates. Is there anything in particular i should be aware of when trying to lose weight and gain muscle at the same time?

Any advice would be very helpful as i am very new to working out.

Thanks

you are on the right track. You probably just aren't as active as you were in school and your body is slowly catching up. Sedentary jobs do that to most people. Since you can't spot reduce fat, you are basically doing what you need to, but maybe lacking cardio. Look up tabata training if you really want to maximize your cardio time. 20m is barely enough time to get any benefit.

Thanks again AllCndBoy looks like you are helping me out a lot here. I have been looking into Tabata Training and it looks interesting. I have now increased my cardio trining to two one hour sessions a week. Do you think this is enough or should i be looking to do more? I was thinking about this more and if i do 30 minutes of cardio every night (except sat and sun as i am very busy over weekends) would this be sufficent?

Thanks for your time

Boldonglen,

If you want to both lose weight and gain muscle at the same time then I can't think of any other way for you but the Somanabolic Muscle Maximizer. Easy to follow and will get you ripped in no time, just like it did for me. Read about it and decide whether you like it or not here: [removed]

LOL. Post count: 1. Good work :D

Im guessing that the post by Zoobity is spam?

Does anyone know of any real way to gain muscle while still losing weight?

I would not class myself as fat but i do have some extra body fat around my stomach and sides that i would like to lose.

I however do not want to stop my weight workout and for that to carry on i need to eat lots of protein and carbs.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

It's not hard to gain muscle while burning fat. (Though weight loss will vary, since you may be replacing the fat with muscle.)

If you do resistance training and cardio on separate days while having a high enough protein intake, then you should see the progress you're looking for.

Thanks Jrahien,

I thought that might be the case the only problem i am having is with the diet part of this whole process. I have never calculated food before and i have no idea about calories, carbs, protein or anything like that.

Could anyone recomend any good sites that have either a list of foods with all of their nutritional values or a site that will show me what i should be eating?

Thanks

Yes, you are doing right things. Losing stomach fat is not difficult till you are committed to yourself. The easiest way to cut stomach fat is to tighten up your eating habits and cut out extra sugar. With a bit of resilience, you can lose that lingering pocket of stomach fat sooner rather than later.

You may add some of my advices if possible:

• Initiate resistance training. When you do resistance training, you strengthen your muscles and build new lean mass. This extra muscle mass helps your body burn calories faster by speeding up your metabolism. Start with two to three 20-minute sessions per week and gradually build up to five or six times per week.

• Begin running. Running is not only great for your heart, but also can teach your body to burn calories and fat more efficiently. You can start by jogging slowly for 20 minutes each day. As you build endurance, speed up your jogging into a run. By the time you've graduated to a full-on run, which stomach fat should be on its way out.

• Eat foods high in fiber and protein. Without enough protein, you can't expect to build lean muscle mass. Your body uses protein to build and repair muscles. Fiber can help you maintain a healthy weight and keep you feeling full much longer. This can prevent you from snacking or eating too much at one meal.

• Keep your meals small. Too much food at once can cause an insulin spike in your bloodstream. Insulin helps deliver usable calories -- in the form of glucose -- to working tissues and cells, and the rest is stockpiled as body fat. By keeping your meals smaller, you reduce your risk of overeating at meals and make it less likely that your body will store unused calories around your belly.

• Ditch the extra calories. Certain habits like adding sugar or cream to coffee can cause the calories to add up over time. When you have two or three of these habits, extra calories can become a problem. Try to avoid adding sugar, creamer, jellies and any other condiments to your food. When cooking, use nonstick sprays instead of oils to cut back on calories from fat. Sometimes, this can be enough to create a caloric deficit, making it easier for you to lose that little extra fat around your waist.

Now I believe you got that you need to maintain a perfect workout plan as well as a proper diet if you are really want to cut the extra fat in your body.
