Young and Fat

Hi there,
I've always been bigger than most people but at the start of last year I lost a bit of weight and felt really good about myself, since then I've slowly been putting it back on and I'm sick of it now. I'm making a considerable effort to lose the weight and to keep it off this time.
After looking around a bit, at only 19, I'm one of the younger members of this forum, but you all seem like lovely people :)

To try and get myself to stick to it, I'm posting my progress on youtube.
I hope I don't get banned for posting that, I'm not trying to sell anything, it'd just be nice to have some people cheering me on and supporting me.
Thanks for reading guys and good luck to you all.

Hi Matt and welcome to the forum! If you want feedback from here then embedding your video in your diary and sharing your journey here in your diary is the way to go.

People will be more comfortable with watching an embedded video than clicking on a link. I'll watch your video, but in the mean time what is your plan for weightloss? How much do you plan to lose? Just share a bit and stick around and you will find plenty of positive support.

P.S. Just click the film strip button in the second row 5th from the right and paste in the address of your video.

Also at 88Kg (194 lb) what height are you and what is your goal weight? It strikes me that you may have more room for body composition change than much weight loss. Also, no number on a scale will make you happy, but making your body healthy and strong will certainly help.

Hi Quercus! Thanks for your reply. I'm 6foot 2 but pushing 6foot 3 on a good day :) My plan is to go to the gym every morning from 8 until half 9, doing an hour of cardio and half an hour of weights, I want to get to about 12, maybe a bit less.

86 Kg would be healthy weight range for your height and 12 stone would be middle of the healthy range. In other words half way between underweight and overweight. That is according to standard BMI measurements. So your goal is optimal for an average person, but with all of that gym time you may become leaner more than you become lighter. Muscle weighs more than fat. That is to say it is denser so 1 Kg of fat takes up a lot more space than 1 Kg of muscle. So if you increase muscle mass while losing or maintaining your current amount of bodyfat your weight could go up, but your body fat percentage would go down. The point being is that you should measure your progress in the gym (take notes) and maybe measure your body of bodyfat so that you aren't getting fit, but being discouraged by the scale. Best of luck to you. I look forward to seeing your success.
