You: On a Diet

I just watched an episode of You: On a Diet on the Discovery Channel & it was very interesting.

Just wondering if anyone has read the book by the same name & if so was it worth the read?

I like their approach to WAIST management instead of looking only at weight management. Seems easy to comprehend yet full of information. I like their style.

even though it was yet one more Oprah diet of the week... I picked up the book and read it.

the book itself makes a lot of sense - though the writing style in the book is highly annoying - they over use cliches and talk to you like you're 10 most of the time.. but once you get past that... i think the book does have a lot of good info -maybe more info than you ever wanted to know.. .especially regarding digestion :D

the diet plan itself is interesting, but i'm not sure it's realistically followable - they seem to borrow from Nicholas Perricone's anti aging diet in that you should have salmon a lot to keep you younger looking (i eat salmon 3x a week and still look older than the hills)

it's worth a read - you can probably get the gist of the book from checking out the YouOnADiet website.. they have a copy of the diet there too...

I read it....

And I have to agree with Maleficent. There is definitely some good information, but it really is like reading a kids book. And I found the ultra detailed descriptions of every bodliy process to be a little dull from time to time as you got overly detailed and simplified information on every aspect of what your body does and what chemicals it produces. About half way through I found myself skimming past the almost endless listing of acronyms and abbreviations. Sadly most of the book was material I wont remember (and already dont) That said, it does provide a lot of good info too, though a condensed version would have been preferable in my eyes. My mother on the other hand, loved it. She absolutely adored the whimisical and silly language used in the book and found the humour quite amusing. To each their own.

Certainly worth a read. However I bought mine online in E-book format and saved a bundle. Lots of companies including Amazon are offering it. I also saw it being sold on Ebay for as little as $5 for those who are price conscious. I paid $11 from simon and schuster. Way cheaper than hardcopy. I took what I needed from the 20 or so pages I found extremely helpful, but it didnt do much more for me.

On the plus side however; if you are looking for a killer 20 minute exercise routine, the You:On a diet website does offer free workout videos online you can download. I really liked these. Only 20 minutes, but damn!!! I have still only done the beginners workout, and it is a workout indeed! I figure a combination of pilates and yoga. Works awesome, and like I said, absolutely free to download. You can have a look on their website (realage.com I think) for the downloads. That made the whole purchase worthwhile or me. For as much as the book beat around the bush too much in my opinion, I do like the workouts and offering them for free shows a good level of sincere support in my mind. I am feeling in better shape than ever before in my life, so maybe now I am ready to try the intermediate version.....

Just my 2 cents, I hope it helps....

Thanks!

I ended up picking up a copy & am starting to read it on the treadmill. So far the analogies & funny dialogue is making me laugh, but I think its because I'm reading it in short doses. I can see where it would get old.

So far I am finding all the information interesting & I think I am comprehending it better than if it was in some dull monotonous toned text.

I'll have to check out the work outs. I love the realage site. LOTS of useful information on there.

Wish the show was still coming on, but I haven't caught another episode.
