Yogurt question

I never was a yogurt kinda guy....if I had one, it was one of the kids fruity yogurts that was near expiry date and probably made a few trips back and forth to school, (kept cold of course).

Anyways, I read of a few peoples diet foods that included plain yogurt. So...I picked up a large container and....Yuck! My gawd is that gross or what.

How do you get it to taste good?? What do you eat it with??

I know the flavoured stuff is not supposed to be that great for you but for an extra 20 calories or so, i think its a viable option.

Anybody??

Thanks in advance

I like plain yogurt, so I'm probably not the best person to answer the question. I also like plain Greek yogurt, which is thicker, creamier, and tarter.

But if you want to sweeten it up, add a bit of Splenda, or some honey, some fresh fruit ... pretty much whatever you want. I sometimes add honey to my Greek yogurt, which is a nice switch.

I agree with Kara. Try putting some fresh fruit in there or even some granola. I don't like plain yogurt either, I also have tried different flavored ones from whole foods, but the pre flavored ones have a lot more sugar.

I add whey protein powder to yogurt. Isoflex brand blends really well, and it comes in a lot of different flavours. A 650 gram container with 2 scoops of whey mixed in is a really quick way to pack 3 meals in the morning if you're in a rush.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I have yet to see greek yogurt in this neck of the woods but I will keep my eyes open. All I seen so far is plain, vanilla and fruity. Might have to look in the USA for it. (great living in a border town)

I'll try the fruit thingy (chopped up strawberries or rasberries ok?)...and then I'll try the whey powder, (which I already do as a variant to my steel cut oats).

I bet whipped cream would make it go down a lot easier <j/k>

Throw some yogurt in the blender with a scoop of whey protein, a splash of milk or fruit juice, and a handful or two of different berries and you have a great breakfast smoothie.

I'm from canada and I know theres a brand I used to eat called astro zero it has no sugar added and is low in fat. you can buy big tubs of it pretty cheap, it comes in a variety of flavours. also bear in mind that when you look at just the sugar content of yogurt you could be looking at the natural sugars in from the milk and berries which is why berry yogurt is higher in sugar, you have to look at the ingredients.

The first time I tried plain yogurt, I didn't like it either. But I gave it a chance, and added some fresh fruit to it. Now, I can't stand flavoured yogurt! Much too sweet! And I actually enjoy plain yogurt on its own. Your tastebuds can change, if you give it a chance. :)

I put yogurt (and a bit of peanut butter) in my oatmeal every morning! The yogurt makes the oatmeal a bit creamier which is nice. I buy vanilla yogurt, but I quite enjoy it on its own. For a treat I blend some frozen blueberries with my yogurt...it's sort of like frozen yogurt which makes me think of ice cream, which makes me feel like I'm having a real treat haha!

I think everyone else already covered this though... just add yogurt to fruit and things you already enjoy. Smoothies are a great way to add lots of things such as yogurt because you don't really notice it! ^_^

I like plain yogurt- I never used to, I think its an aquired taste.

Maybe try some compote, sprinkle over some berrys or add some pineapple chunks. Nice as an after gym snack.

I acquired a taste for plain homemade yogurt. It tastes a bit like buttermilk. It's kind of a pain to make, though, so I just drink the buttermilk. Low fat buttermilk is one of my favorite things to drink.

I'd bet its very easy to OD on too! Be careful with that one!
