XerNivek's Adventures in Weight Loss & Pro Wrestling!

Sheesh... where to start. For the first 25 years or so of my life I could eat when, where, how much and what kind food I wanted and would not/could not gain a freakin' ounce. Nowadays, well, for the past 8 years or so, that's not that case.

Back in the day, when I was all about weight training and cardio, I would eat around 8k calories... from Spaghetti O's to veggies, weight gainer shakes to marathon fast food sessions. And I could not for the life of me make it over the 180lbs mark. It frustrated the hell out of me, as I wanted to be 200!!

Then: (here we go) I got married (queue dramatic soap opera music).

This story sound familiar to anyone? I've spoken to many people that tell me the same thing: "Oh ya, dude, once I got married I gained the weight uber fast" or "ya, got comfortable in my life and slowed down, just inviting the lbs in" among other things.

I've fluctuated in weight after I married (I quickly gained, hmmm, about 35-40 lbs in about 2 years or less in the two initial years of marriage - that's 180 lbs all the way up to about 215-220) and haven't been able to get the dang stuff off me, no matter what I tried...

...that is.... until... NOW!

So I broke down and bought an elliptical machine about 3 weeks ago. It's fun, doesn't kill my joints and isn't too difficult in execution - well, no exercise is difficult when done to ones own level - so in difficult I guess I mean like trying a 60 minute Tae Bo DVD for the first time.

I had been going for an average of 30-45 minutes per day... then it kinda wavered. Not sure why... working late, kids, etc, etc.

But then I had a revelation! I've been a pro wrestling fan for almost 30 years... and I just bought the WrestleMania 1-21 DVD package. With over 80 hours of matches I made it a part of my goal! So starting from WrestleMania 1, I watch an hour of each WM each evening while I exercise on my "ellie", 5 evenings per week, until I get through WM21.

I want to keep a log of (a) my weight loss , (b) my progress of feeling healthy and (c) my nostalgic musings about WrestleMania - what I remember from watching them back in the day, and my favorite moments.

I've been exercising for 3 weeks now and am down from 215 to 206. I started the WrestleMania thing on Friday, and I'm just now chewing on WrestleMania 2.

This is my plan for weight loss/health gain success:

1) Elliptical 60 minutes per day
2) Eat as healthy as possible... not being obsessed about eating properly so much as eating less... and healthy as possible, when possible. I'm not going granola hippy with my eating habits, just eating less and a little better :)
3) Drink ~1 gallon of water per day
4) Cut out soda (Diet is OK once in a while)

So let's begin now:

WrestleMania 1 (whole enchilada): Highlight matches were Andre/Studd and the main event w/ Hogan and Mr. T. Mr. T sucked, Hogan was, as always, great and Roddy Piper/Mr. Wonderful are two of the greatest bad guys ever in the history of Wrestling. Too bad Piper went face waaaay to early and was wasted potential. Overall, great for nostalgia, but the matches plodded. But hey, I still loved every second!

Elliptical is getting easier every day - 100 rotations per difficulty level, at 10 levels total. 1 through 10, the back down to 1 = 2000+ rotations total. Whew - I stink and sweat like a meatloaf, but it feels freakin' awesome!

Damn! I ate 2 hamburgers from Jack In The Box... tasted awesome, but I felt guilty/bad afterwards. But hey, this isn't about perfection, it's about getting to the goal, regardless of simple setbacks, right? I'll rotate an extra hundred for those burgers :)

This is one of the greatest workout plans ever and damn how much did that set, set you back thats alot of wrestling lol

Big John Stud forever.Met him, the JYD and George Cannon after a wrestling match in detroit when I was a kid they came back to my home town across the pond in windsor ont for ribs as a famous place we got here and we went there for dinner to after wrestling they let me sit with them for a minuite and all signed an autograph it was awsome.

of course it all happened cause my mom was so drunk she didn't care and went up and said somthing like "my kid loves wrestling we were there but we were so high up you guys looked like babies" lol somtimes an alcoholic mom can come in handy for a kid lol

anyway good luck and keep the wrestling updates comming I am subscribed for sure

repped for a great idea

That's awesome, Need2B... in all my years as a fan I've never met a wrestler. The closest I've come is seeing Animal (from the Road Warrior/LOD) and Papa Shango (aka The Godfather) at the airport in Las Vegas. Ah, well, maybe some day. Hope to meet Hogan, ideally.

The WM set, btw, was about $180 or so, I think. I received it as a gift, so I was lucky to not have to fork over any change for it. But after I watch the WrestleManias, there's the new Royal Rumble Anthology (20 years of 'em) that I'll probably have to dole out cash for, but that's cool - I'm spending less on food, so I should have enough saved by then... hopefully.

WrestleMania 2

Alrighty, head first in to WrestleMania 2. It was awesome seeing The Macho Man in his WM debut against George The Animal Steele. Macho was such an amazing performer, both wrestling and acting. The Piper/Mr. T boxing match was as lame as it was back in the day. I am/was a huge fan of Piper and thought that having him box was a waste of time... I wanna see the guy wrestle, especially at a PPV. And the WM debut of Jake The Snake was great too... he should have got the strap at some point, but never did. Too bad.

There women's championship match at WM2 was a sham. Lady's wrestling has never been "good" to me. I'm not saying they can't mix it up, but it's just never smooth or timed right - always seems labored and routine. Moolah and Velvet McIntyre was crap. Yech. The match was only like 30 seconds long (thankfully) but man was it bad. I think Moolah is game and is a legend, but man, it was sorry.

Tomorrow is the big Battle Royal with The Fridge and other football players. Can't wait to see that nasty thong/leotard thing that The Fridge wore... I remember it looking ridiculous and embarrassing back in the day, so it'll probably be worse now, as an adult.

I ate alright. Chicken, green beans, macaroni, a bbq sandwich. Ya, probably not so alright, huh? I've been feeling sick for the past couple of days too, so the elliptical's been super tough to go 60 minutes on. I've made it each day, but it's tough! I can see the stomach getting slimmer and, with the exception of the cold, I feel more energetic and mobile (or is that agile?)

I'm thinking about doing a 10 day water diet here in the next few weeks. I don't know, though. The pounds are coming off at a great pace, but that's not the "internal cleansing" I want. Hmmmm... I guess I've gotta mentally train myself first, then see where I'm at. Maybe start with a juice fast first...

Battle Royal and Hogan/Bundy up next!!! Yeah!

Having a cold makes exercising a bit more difficult... that's stating the obvious, huh? I drank a ton of fluids and stepped down the pace I normally set, yet I still didn't think I was going to make it... and surprisingly, I did MORE than normal, when it was all said and done. 840 calories (per the indicator, anyhow), 2400 steps and 62 minutes later, I was a mess, but felt great for having made, and surpassed, my daily goal!

I've been taking Zicam and Airborne and my cold's been reduced to a day and a half... I normally have colds for minimum 4 days. I'm not really sold on Airborne but Zicam nails the colds! It's amazing... highly recommended!

The mirror is starting to like me again. My stomach is flattening out a bit, and my face is losing the roundness. I'm really, really looking forward to the day I finish up WrestleMania 21!

I'm almost done with WM 2 now. I had forgotten how talented Adrian Adonis was! He looked like hell as far as physique goes (late in his career, anyhow) bu he could move better than half the fit dudes can nowadays. And he was a great in ring performer as well... sold hits and moves like no other. I'd say Adonis, Savage and Steamboat sold stuff better than anyone in history... yes, even better than Flair... and I think Flair is one of the top 3 ever.

British Bulldogs won the tag titles at WM2. Meh. I pretty much only cared to watch those guys against the Hart Foundation. Otherwise, it was same 'ol - same 'ol when they performed.

Speaking of Hart Foundation, Brett Hard took a mean Boot From Hell shot from Andre The Giant in the final moments of the WM2 Battle Royal. It must have hurt like HELL.
