hey guys

i have started this week my "diet" as i really need to lose a few pounds before i go away next week (thursday) and i have started to drink way more water than i have ever done before, but i worry that when i go out i look even fatter because i get really bloated when i have drank lots of the good stuff, is this normal?

water is great for curbing hunger, but some people tend to hold water more than others. It is actually considered 'healthy' to be a bit bloated because it means you are drinking enough ... however, if you need to fit into that bikini for a wknd getaway, or to drop down into that next weight class for whatever sport, then you may have to slow down on the water.

there are natural dieretics...like asparagus and most fruits and veggies will help..but they do sell over the counter stuff that can help just be careful you dont take to much. Also..lower your salt intake as well as watching the foods you eat & their sodium levels...I have a problem w/ water weight also..so believe me this is from personal exp!

water retention

Hi,

I was interested in the conversation about bloating and holding water because in some weeks my weight will fluctuate 5 pounds, up and down. It is very annoying.

For me, I would never consider a diuretic medication or "water pill" for a cosmetic purpose (looking thinner.) If I had enough bloating to where it causes a problem, I would definately have medical supervision. Diuretic pills not only manage water release, but electrolytes, blood pressure and other things.

In my opinion, diuretic medications are something that should be reserved for medical problems. I do not know anything about foods which have a diuretic effect or herbal/homeopathic treatments.

It's just my two cents.

marsto is correct...if you are on medications for any chronic illnesses you should never take anything w/out talking w/ your doc. I go see a nutritionist and I only use natural forms of vitamins & supplements.... but i do try to limit my salts & drink my water... that helps for me
