Would love to tone my arms..suggestions?

Hello. I am at an interesting point. I have lost 20 lbs and am back to the size that i was before. Yes, I would like to lose more lbs to get to my 'ideal weight' but right now I want to focus on toning my upper body. I currently do weight training and am strong, but i dont have that "cut" look or definition and I was hoping for some insight as to how I can modify my current routine (i dont belong to a gym - i use swiss ball, resistance bands and free weights), so that i can not only be strong (which i am so excited i am!) but also show definition....

what is the correct weights/reps? any particular better exercise? pushups? pullups? i'm up for anything.

Thanks.

ps- i'm female, 5'5'', 139 lbs, size 4 bottom, heavy on the top, and can easily do many repititions of most upper body activities at 12 lb dumbells...

Just my thoughts Skyler. With free weights and a swiss ball, you can get an excellent overall body workout. Maybe it is your diet that is restricting you. To get "cut" or more defined you need to lose bodyfat and a lot of that is proper diet and plenty of water. If you can post what you would normally eat on a daily basis, maybe we can give you more insight.

Thanks. Okay, this is also where I am slightly confused and think i may not be getting enough calories, based on the amount of exercise i do??

I eat 1200 cal/day.

example day:
2 eggs/oatmeal - breakfast
cottage cheese/yogurt - snack
tuna/crackers - lunch
almonds - snack
protein & veggies and salad - dinner

I screwed up and ate 1050 cal average/week for about a month and i htink put myself into starvation mode b/c i lost nothing. I've been up to 1200 for a few weeks now, but still have lost nothing (on the scale).

and vitamins/calcium and 65 oz of water daily.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

skyler02,

I posted my views on youe menu on the "Weight Loss" board. Or was it another one? Either way, it's there :)

I also wanted to add one thing- if you can easily do 12 pounds for most upper body exercises then I hope you are moving up to a 15 pound weight. You must keep going up in weights to see progress.

Also, as jpc said... getting cut is done by decreasing body fat. To do that you need to... strength train and eat impeccably well. You can see the other thread for my details about your menu. In recapping it- eat more still!

Good luck :)

It appears as if your protein intake is too low. Increase your protein intake. I would also add more vegetables and fruit to your daily diet. I would toss the crackers and also drink more water. Also, as Lynn stated, if 12 lbs is very easy you need to increase the weight you are training with but still keep proper form. :)
