worst times to eat food.

Lately, I've been putting myself into an "off-limits" sort of food cycle. I'm just not allowed to eat anything after my last meal. That's it. No Matter What. I can drink water, but that's it.
Sure it takes discipline, :gnorsi:, but doesn't every weight loss plan require that?
That's really what my worst eating offenses are, running to Taco Bell late at night, going to a 24hr IHOP late at night, whatever.
4th meal is really pretty evil.
I've also heard many times that a lot more of your food is converted to fat when you eat late at night.
SO.. I guess I would suggest to you guys to do the same. Eat well. Eat healthy, but don't eat beyond your allocated time to eat.

Just go out and buy one of these special keyboards. Then when you get hungry all you have to do it press this! ^_^ Easy and only $19.99 + S&H

All kidding aside. I believe in you.

im really not very convinced in the fat converting during late night.

i think it ment ( dont sleep after ur last mean tell 2 hrs later ) thats all

other wise i think if u are eating ur maintenance minus 500-1000 calories u shod not even get any hunger cause thats signs of ( starvation mode ) of the body that gets triggered when u eat loswer than 20% or 30% of ur BMR.

so my theory is that ur hungered is triggered by a psychological temptation like ( commercials - memory of a specific taste of an old meal u used to eat it - or some family member or a friend eating next to u while he knows that u are on a diet )

my suggestions are 1- check if u arent eating maximum 1000 calories under ur BMR 2- get away from any place that have foods temptations and tell ffriends and family u are on a diet so they try not to eat infront of u ( ofc if they wish u success ) 3- make sure ur calories burnt during exercises are 50% of ur calories dificit not over that.

wish u good luck :D

Yeah, I'm not convinced by the fat converting either. I work more on an absolute "if it's a deficit you'll lose". There is something to be said for not eating during weak times, if you can (or pre-empting weak times and opting for something that will help overcome the binge- I have specific taste cravings and try to cope with them by making lower calorie choices)

I don't think that was Monster's point. I think he was just stating that he has set the rule in place that, once he's finished eating dinner, he doesn't eat for the rest of the day. Not because of fat converting or anything, but because it's his late night meals that undo his day and put him over his calorie limit.

At least, that's what I got from it anyway. Probably because I feel the same way about myself and the whole late night eating scenario.

For me, late night eating was my #1 problem when I was fat. I would eat tons of food AFTER dinner, especially sweets (brownies, cake, poptarts, milkshakes, etc...) At this time of the day, I had no self control.

When I started losing weight, I immediately cut the after-dinner meals. It was hard and some nights I would go to bed at 8pm because I wanted to eat so badly. On top of the empty surpluss of calories, it gave me horrible heart burn ALL night long.

Now, I have absolutely no cravings after dinner. It took a while, but they did go away. The only time I might eat something before bed is if I had a low calorie day and I start to feel lightheaded. It doesn't happen often, but sometimes I get that way after a hard workout if I don't eat enough (and no, I'm not starving myself :) I usually eat 2,000 - 2,200 calories per day).

I think it's important to acknowledge your weak spots and conquer them - great job!!!

Yes, that's what I was getting at.

Okay.. just did a little homework. I was told.. at one time, by a health/nutrition studies major in college that your body does more converting food to fat at night. BUT.. after a look online, what I've found is this is not conclusive, and more study needs to be done.
more homework.. coming soon. (maybe)

more info: google "eating before bed"
Here's some info from the 1st article:
What and when you eat at the end of the day can have a large impact on your weight. If you eat the right thing at the right time you can actually lose weight while you sleep. Eat the wrong thing at the wrong time and you can plan on waking up with a little more body fat in the morning.

To succsufully loss weight, you'll need to stop eating two - three hours before going to bed. YOu shold not feel starving before bed but you should feel slightly hungry. When you're trying to lose weight, slipping into bed at night feeling slightly hungry is actually a good thing. It's your body telling you that what you did that day is working -- you're losing body fat. If you don't feel this way, you're probably not losing fat.

Now lets say you follow your brain's directive and eat close to bedtime, your body will not dip into the fat it has stored away, and will probably even store some more. Every time you eat, your metabolism increases slightly. But this effect is lost or minimized late at night. You don't get the same metabolism-boosting benefit when you eat just before bed, because a couple of hours after dinner, your body begins preparing for sleep. This natural slackening of your metabolic rate overrides any metabolic boost you might get from eating. So once you hit the pillow, the only calories you're going to use are the basic calories you need to keep your heart beating and your lungs breathing and allow your eyes to move in REM sleep. This is only a minimal number of calories.

Believe it or not, eating late at night can also inhibit your calorie-burning potential the next day. Say, for instance, that you treat yourself to a sandwich and some fat free chips at 9.:30 P.M. one night and are fast asleep by 10:30. When your alarm goes off the next morning at eight, the last thing on your mind is going to be breakfast -- you're still full from the sandwich and fat free chips you ate the night before. Chances are, you're going to skip breakfast and lose all the metabolism-boosting benefits you'd get from eating a morning meal.

Interesting looking articles. I'll read them tonight with my big bowl of M&M's :rotflmao:
