Worried I'm losing the 'wrong' weight...

I don't know if this is a weird question or not. It feels weird because I'm having trouble explaining it.

I'm definitely losing weight - according to the scales, about 50 pounds. But according to the measuring tape and the mirror, I don't feel like I'm losing that much fat. So, I'm afraid that I'm losing muscle instead, doing something wrong.

When I started, I was 220 pounds with a 41 inch waistline (41-ish, maybe 40 maybe 42 - I didn't measure in the beginning, am only estimating based on pants sizes that fit then). Now, I am 170 pounds, with a 37 inch waistline.

Do I have a reason to be worried, or does this sound like healthy loss?

You can control (for the most part) how much weight you lose. But, you can't control WHERE you lose it from. What I mean is, you can't control if you burn fat from your thighs, stomach, arms, etc. It just happens and there is nothing you can do about it. So, ignore what the measuring tape is telling you.

Just be happy you've dropped 50 lbs.

4 inches off your waistline and 50lbs is a great loss. You should be proud of what you have done ... and carry on because it is working. Have friends and family noticed your weight loss?

As ChefChi says you cannot choose where to lose fat from - otherwise my thunder thighs and big ass would be long gone!

50lbs and 4 inches lost on the waist doesn't sound bad at all.
Like Chicheftown said, you can't control where you lose weight and perhaps your waist is your problem zone, usually it's the last thing to go.

Are you exercising and getting enough protein? If so, you don't have to worry about muscle loss. But if you haven't been exercising at all, expect a little muscle loss.
