workout rut

Hey everyone
I'm new to the forum and need a little advice. I'm a personal trainer and feel like I'm in my own rut. Exercise everyday with a mix of teaching fitness classes, weight lifting and cardio. The ehthusiasm I used to feel is slowly diminishing. Would like to shed 5-7 pounds but seems impossible. Don't know what more I can do. I mix up my programs and have a relatively healthy diet. Is it true that the more you exercise and get in shape the more you have to do in order to keep the body changing. My workouts now last anywhere from 1-2.5 hours 6 days week. Any advice is appreciated.

It sounds like you're in a rut through the boredom of doing the same things all day, at work and in your own time. It's probably made training yourself feel a bit like work too.

The things I would suggest are getting someone else to train you and maybe finding a whole new way to train.
For example, I get bored of hitting the gym every day and doing the same old stuff too, that's why I'm planning on starting to do other stuff like sandbag training at home. It's just a fresh challenge to keep things fresh

Thanks for the advice. I think I have a tendency to be a little OCD when it comes to training/diet. Always analyzing and trying to figure out what's best. I should probably change my attitude toward the whole fitness thing and have fun with it rather than pursue it as a chore. I will switch things up. Thanks

I'm doing my first triathalon in two weeks... excited about that. I think chatting with other fitness enthusiaists and getting new ideas will definitely help too. Love the ideas! Finally a place to get great info from those who practice what they preach!! Yeah!!

I did muay thai/kickboxing last summer and found it to be a really fun way to work out. if you haven't done it before and end up doing beginner classes, i'd supplement with cardio before the class starts, i.e bike or jog to the gym where the class is at.

I can TOTALLY relate. I am at that 5-7 pound mark as well, and it is tough and very frustrating - especially when we work so hard!

The club I work at got these great new bikes, so I have started spinning, and while I do not love it, it is an amazing workout (if you like to sweat ;) ). I have also started doing a split workout, going very early in the morning with DH to do strength work, then going back (most days) on my own to get some cardio in -- I haven't seen any progress yet, but it's only been 3 weeks :D

I agree with others, try to change things up by getting out of the atmosphere you are used to. Also, maybe try taking a little time off. Give your body a rest, and come back refreshed.

Best of luck to you.

I'm finding that doing splits is def. taking a little of the monotony out of the workouts. Been really trying to stick to a very clean diet (cheated today with a small soft serve icecream!) and have lost 2 pounds...3 to go. Its amazing what a strict, nutritious diet will do!! Choosing good foods is key... have to admit I love chocolate!!

How did the triathlon go? Was it a sprint?

Chocolate and ice cream - my two biggest weaknesses :(

Congrats on the 2lbs.

g8r80 - I do not think she has done the triathalon yet -- might be this weekend. Good luck Tracy - whenever it is!!!

triatholon on the 27th. a little nervous, excited too. swimming will be the toughest for me. didn't train in a lake like I should have only in a pool and not nearly hard enough. Oh well. Will do my best.
