Workout advice for a beginner

Hey guys. I am a beginner here and am just looking for some opinions/advice. I have recently started a workout routine. My goal is to lose some weight and get in better shape basically. I have joined a gym. I workout with a trainer on mondays and wednesdays for an hour. Every other day of the week, I try to do cardio for at least 45 mins. Fridays I try to do a bit of a work out on my own. Ive changed my eating habits. Ive been taking in a lot of protein, water, eating tuna, chicken, etc. I know this wont happen overnight and takes hard work. So I think I am on my way to where I want to go. I am just looking for any tips anyone may have for a beginner. Maybe a workout I can do on my own without the trainer, etc. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks, guys.

Well, it sounds like you are doing great! What kind of cardio are you doing? Have you added any weights? Your trainer would probably give you the best advice. Really they are their to make sure you are doing the right excercises correctly, so work with him/her as much as you can as long as you like their style. How long have these life style changes been in effect?

Hi and welcome! Glad to hear that you are making some great liefstyle changes. And good that you have a trainer to advise you. If you are not doing weights that is the one thing I owuld reccomend. Theya re a very important part of losing fat and total fitness.

Good luck!

I am really glad to hear this mentality. I think the big problem today is that people want easy and quick results, and in fitness, like pretty much every other aspect of life, it just doesnt work that way. keep that attitude, and you will lose the weight and keep it off.

despite being hard work though, fitness is conceptually easy. if it is difficult to do (and not dangerous), it is probably burning a lot of calories. swimming, cycling, running, playing basketball, etc: whatever cardio you like to do, it will burn calories. follow conventional wisdom in eating right: eat lots of vegetables, stay away from junk food. protein is good because it fills you up and is hard to store as fat (although, it shouldnt be all you eat).

not to much cardio

one thing i like to stress is to watch your cardio. studies show that depending on bodytype after 30-45 minutes of cardio, you can actually begin to lose muscle. also keep in mind that cardio does burn a lot more calories initially, but after a strength training routine, your body will continue to burn calories for much longer than after a cardio routine.
