Working the same muscles.

Right now I'm REALLY trying to work on my upper body, mainly by bicepts, and pecs.

Lately I've been working them out each day, for 40 min. A friend told me today "Working out the same muscle each day isn't good for you, you'll over train them".

I'm working out 5 days a week, monday, and tuesday, I take the day off, or do some running.

Just in a week I have noticed a massive change in my chest, my pecs are a lot more muscular, I'm not sure about my biceps.

I just have a question, is it true, that if I work bicepts and chest each night, doing close to the same workout each night, that I'll overtrain?

Thanks.

muscles usually need 48 hours of rest before you train them again.. and that you already see results is weird.. a week is not enough time for that usually.. it could be that when ur working out your muscles look bigger.. i dunno.. i always think my biceps looks bigger a day after i worked them, then if i stop, they go back down to normal size again..

It sure is. Muscles grow after the workout. But more importantly why are you only working chest and arms? Work your whole body and you'll see much faster progress.

yeah,,. do you go to a gym? if so, you can do a full body routine 3 times a week. be sure to add deadlifts and squats ;)

OK, thanks for the advice guys, it really helped.

I'm pretty sure, I did just get fast results, I had taken a break, about a month, from working out due to a shoulder injury from rugby. This, and last week I started to eat more protein, and cals than ever before, and it seems to be really showing.

Are you talking about the pump after working out? Yes, everyone gets that, but normally only lasts about 30 min after a work out.

I'll definitely make up a new workout plan, and work certain parts on specific days.

I'll look up some good routines.

sorry, but you didn't notice jack sh*t in a week of training. the body doesn't work that way.

you may have noticed post workout that things looked good, but the muscles were engorged with blood and bigger than normal...not a valid test of what you've accomplished in a week.

Actually I haven't worked out those muscles for 2 days now, and I still see the result. I'm not saying it's a big result, no one else would look at me and say anything about it, or notice. I just see a change.

If you gave proper rest instead of working them 5 days a week, you would see even better results. You workout, you breakdown the muscle, needs time to build back up or its just broken down muscle.
