Working specific areas

Hey guys, I try to go to the gym as regularly as possible and I usually do about 40-60min cardio on the bike then about 40-60min in the gym doing various upper body exercises, sit ups, etc. I am more or less content with the way my body is coming along except for my stomach. I can easliy do without about 10 lbs but whatever I do, I cant seem to reduce the size of my gut. Its like a mini buddha. Any tips on good exercises that target the abs zone in particular? And before you all say dieting at once, I try my best but since I still live at home, I dont shop for myself, therefore Im at the mercy of whatever my parents eat. Instead what I do is choose wisely, avoiding certain foods. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Chris

I dont know how long you have followed that workout but it may be time for a change.

I'd deff 100% say that you must must MUST do your weight training before your cardio.

Your cardio workout will burn up most of your energy so you'll have less energy when you do your weights.
If you have less energy for your weights then you wont be able to lift as much, therfore you wont make as many gains.

I know your main goal is a flat stomach, but to do that you need to A) eat less or B) speed up your metabolism.

I think every1 would agree that speeding up your metablism is a hell of a lot more practical. Even if your goal is you stomach, you'll benifit from biger muscles because even when you sleeping your muscles are burning calories.

Maybe it'd also help if you changed your cardio workout to. Try shortening it to 20-30mins (as long periods of cardio reduce muscle size).
instead of jogging/mildly fast running, sprint flat-out up hill for as long as you can, even if its only 1min, then reduce the speed to a fast walk untill you feel you can do it again.

You improve your fittness, and the ultimate goal is to be able to sprint up-hill for 20mins. This is prob never going to happen, but try to increase time apent sprinting and reduce walking time.

I geuss I am using it as an excuse. My problem is I dont have enough self discipline. I try to eat lots of chicken, but what are things I should avoid at all times? And I'll try what you said, it makes sense when i think about it. I go biking with my friends often so I'll switch my cardio from biking to running. Thanks.
