Hiya, I'm relatively new to these forums as well as the whole "fitness" scene in general. I am not quite sure if there is a section on this site that is better suited to my questions, but this section seemed the best fitted, so here goes.. I am a 17 year old male interested in getting into shape. While I'm not obese or overweight really, I am not as lean and built as I would like to be. I have worked out in the past, done a routine of 300 sit-ups, 50-60 pushes, lifting weights and the whole bit every day of the week..
Very unsuccessfully at that, I might add. In all honesty, I didn't even think doing sets were that important at the time.. My diet was a lot to be desired as well, and I had no cardio within my routine, so its no wonder why I didn't acquire the results I wanted. Of course, this was 2 years ago back when I was without a computer for a while and didn't have adequate resources to educate myself on my own body either. Now that I do, though, I would like to pull all the info I can and do it right this time.
More or less I would like to get in shape for a few reasons, 1 being that I plan on beginning something called 'free running', or 'parkour' with a friend of mine. He's pretty in shape right now like I used to be naturally back when I biked, but I stopped being active for the longest time, usually video gaming, and my unhealthy habits took a toll on my physique after I stopped doing all the things I used to. As well as this, I would just like to look great and feel good about how I look in general.
I know this is getting kind of lengthy at this point, just trying to be thorough I s'pose.. Moving on, what I'm looking for is a lean look, a little bit like how Will Smith is, as he looks great in general and most of the free runners I have seen have a fairly lean, toned look like he does. So I guess my question is.. How should I go about achieving this?
I have done a little bit of what can be called 'research' on my own, and I plan to continue to do so, but I am a little unsure of which route I want to take at this point.. I have scanned acrossed something called the p90x fitness videos on these forums, and looked a little into it, and from what I've seen so far, it seems to be the only commercial marketing BS I might actually believe enough to buy into, especially at 100$.. I have seen some youtube videos of people that have tried it, and they all seemed rather legit to me.
The thing I like about it is the fact there is a little more flexibility incorperated into it, which I will undoubtedly need for free running, and hell, being flexible helps all around in general, right? Anywho, that being one route, the other being I can begin my own routine without the help of some videos/pre-made diet plan to guide me along where I formulate my own exercises/diet. I still want to research everything I can about fitness/nutrition as I think it is everyone's responsibility to know what the hell is going on with their bodies, exactly what is good for it and what is bad for it.
So, recommendations are appreciated. On a final note, I would just like to say that I am trying to go with whatever will be cheapest as far as equipment goes.. The videos not being included in that. I haven't really looked up the equipment needed for that training program, so if anyone knows a ball park range, that'd be great, if not, I'll get around to looking it up eventually. I prefer whatever the routine be that it uses little to no expensive equipment, with the exception of a treadmill since I'm really not one to go jogging on a sidewalk, especially not in a city.
I don't expect anyone to make up a diet plan/exercise routine for my lazy butt, but if I see it is recommended I go that route instead of the p90x program, then I will most likely pop back in here with some ideas and need of comments/suggestions = ) Also, if you're interested/have no clue what free running is, you can simply type in "free running" in youtube and get some video results that way = )
