working out while sick

Hello. Back in high school I used to pray to get sick so that I could get out of work...but now that Im getting back into shape, its my worst nightmare. Ive been going to the gym 5-6 times a week for almost a month now and the compliments ive been getting are great for reinforcing my being there. In addition to lifting weight, I also try to run 3-4 miles a day for weight loss. My problem is that Ive been getting progressively sicker as the weeks worn on, and I was wondering if I should try to muscle through my workouts tomorrow or if maybe there were alternate ones I could do. Today was my off day (from lifting and diet) so ofcourse I feel like a bum and desperatly want to atleast run tomorrow. Is this reasonable, or will it just mess me up even more? Also, Ive heared that saunas can drain you of all the congestion if you stay in for a while, truth? Thanks

Give your body time to recuperate. No use pushing through a half-hearted workout where the added stress will do nothing but make it harder for your body to heal. Skip the sauna especially where your immune system is a little low, or instead of just having the cold you have, you may also pick up whatever the last guy had that sat in there.

Don't feel guilty..you are trying to do what is best for your body, and getting well should be the priority.

Take a few days off. Your body is sick and may be over trained. I say this because you mentioned getting "progressively sicker."

I'd rather take a few days off, get better, re-evalutate my eating and workout routine- is it making me sick, is it meeting my goals, am I doing too much too soon, etc, and then start fresh. Your body will thank you.

Im not sure what you are getting sick with, but generally you can workout if it is a slight cold. A fever or nauseous feeling means rest :)
