Working out too much?

hello :)
I work out everyday, usually sometime of running/walking on the treadmill, elliptical, or stationary bike. And on every other day I lift weights I'm 5'8'' and started at 170 and now I'm at 164. Lately, it seems I'm at a standstill...my sister is convinced that I work out too much, I never thought that could be possible..but that's what I'm trying to figure out. Why am I at this standstill, and I'm not working out too much, am I? Thank youu. :p

Your body could just be getting use to your routine. You might need to switch it up a bit. Try to do something you haven't done yet. Like if you jog on the treadmill try HIIT instead. I do 5 minutes walking..then 2-3 minutes on 8mph..then I go back down to 5.5 mph for a few minutes...then 3.2....then back up to 8mph for a bit. Basically you just run your butt off and then walk to get your heart rate back down..then you do it all over again and again. I go for about a mile and 1/2 to 2.

I'm in the same boat as you. I workout everyday. 60-90 minutes at the gym. I get told a lot that it's too much. If I am sore to the point where I am in pain I don't push it. You have to give you body a break once in a while. Make sure you are getting enough protein & drinking enough water. If you're spending more than 2 hours in the gym everyday than I would say that's a bit much. However you seem like you're fine now...

It sounds like you are working out a bit too much - your body will rebel with fatigue and lack of scale movement if you overstress it.

But additionally, exercise is only a very teeny-tiny part of losing weight. You can exercise until you fall over every day, but if you're eating too much, you're not going to lose. It's entirely possible that becuase you're exercising so much, you're eating more - whether consciously or unconsciously - and that's stopped your weight loss.

And don't eat before sleeping because your food will not be burned.

Hello and welcome to the forum, but this is a dieting myth. When you eat has no effect on your weight loss. Your body does not shut down when you are asleep. You still digest, you still burn calories.

nightmares I can't be sure lol. You might also get an upset stomach. That is more of a person by person thing.

But yes, studies have proven that eating later at night before bed or such does not cause weight gain in itself. Course if you eaten your calories for the day then snack calories at night then you will gain because Calories In needs to be less than Calories Out. If it personally works to help you lose weight by setting a no eat time, that's cool. I'm more mentioning the reasoning behind it. Don't worry, many people still believe it.

Maybe make sure your properly hydrated with plain water and not fizzy drinks or sugary drinks. Eat well, keep the junk to a minimum which can all help your blood sugar levels. Low blood sugar levels will leave you lathargic and not able to concerntrate well.

Also make sure your sleeping well- if your new to exercise or have boosted your workout recently you may find your body requires more sleep as when it rests it repairs, sleeping is one of the times it likes to repair.

If you have suddenly boosted your days from 1 or 2 to 5 or 6 then your going to have a knock on effect- make sure any changes like that are kept an eye on- your body will only take so much of what you throw at it.
