Working out only once a week does not work!

... at least for me it doesn't. In another thread about a month ago some people told me to do a really good workout once a week and let my body rest the rest of the week. I still did some cardio during the week but nothing with my arms. I LOST WEIGHT AND FEEL LIKE IM WEAKER!!! I don't know who told me that only working out once a week was good, BUT YOU WERE SO WRONG! I only weighed 125 to begin, now I weight 120 and im 5'8", I look like a damn starving child!!! I did a really hard workout today and it felt like I was workingout for the 1st time ever (it never hurt that bad before only when I 1st started working out).

Anyway, what im saying is, if you are skinny and trying to gain weight, do not do it once a week, that way is NOT for skinny people! I'm going to go back to my 3 times a week workout. I think it was 'abear' who said NOT to do the once a week thing, I think he said it doesn't work on skinny people, well you were right abear!!!

yay abear the fountain of good knowledge. he always has good things to say as do many other ppl here. why would anyone only want to work it once a week anyway???

Ummmm...you shouldn't listen to people that tell you it takes a full weak to recover. That and your caloric intake will dictate whether you gain weight not just picking up the weights.

dont know if it was me who told you but i do agree with what you're saying

bill starr, mike mahler, chad waterbury, mark rippetoe, glen pendlay, on and on and on. we're in good company. :)

I think everyone has the wrong Idea here.

This guy was told to train each muscle once per week, he thinks it means going to the gym for a full body workout once a week!!!

SNS - you can still go to the gym 3-4 times a week but split your up your work out so your working each muscle once a week. Look through the diarys if you need help with a program.

I'm half way thru my second cycle of a 10day workout program, working each muscle once every 5 days

For 10x3 work out...

incline and decline Bench press has gone up 20lbs in just 2 workouts!
dumbell shoulder press 9lbs
barbell bicep curl 9lbs
front and back squat 25lbs

you can see my program in the diary section

Wrong. I stopped doing fullbody workouts.

This is what I did and it didn't work.

describe your full body, and how often you do it. i'm missing something here.. i may be an i***t but i need clarification on this one.

I much prefer the split routine myself. I used to do 3 times a week with each muscle group, but I think that's overkill personally.

I like the once a week per muscle group, with a second day working it to a lesser extent. Like having a tri day, and then having the tris worked out a second day by working the chest. With my split routine, that second day comes naturally with almost everything. Only thing I work out more than once a week are the abs. You're able to put more work into each muscle group instead of having to prioritize every day. Let's you focus on everything more thoroughly and seems to be easier and more effective at the same time. That's been my experience anyway.

Either way, if you're losing weight.. that's a problem. You need to eat more, and do less cardio. Your body needs a surplus of calories to work with and plenty of protein to make your work at the gym pay off for you. Once a week wouldn't make you weaker, that's not a good sign. You may be doing too much on that day as well.

On a side note.. I checked out that terminal vertical site, which I've never been to before. I see no threads, and when I try to register, it says my email's been banned (seriously doubt someone else used my email address to register at another time). Anyone else have problems with that site?

Regardless of your routine, you will only see results in muscle groups that you hit 2-3x a week. Once a week is maintenance.

seeing as your the one thats asking for help, perhaps you could be a bit more specific and tell us what you were doing and we'll have a look and see whats wrong with it.

I'm also an ectomorph and I have found working each muscle (bar abs and calfs) once a week yielded the best results.
