Working out after a long time off.

I just turned 50 and I decided I wanted to regain some muscle. I joined a gym this week and it is a bit scary since when I have worked out in the past it has been at home. I am not new to weight lifting as I was competition ready about 8 years ago. Man that seems like forever. I am looking for a place to get some support and motivation. I hope I am in the right place.

If you want any advice on where to start, now that you're getting back into it, I recommend doing something like StrongLifts 5x5 or Starting Strength. They're both good, simple, freeweight programs for starting out light enough to ease your way back into the lifting game, and progressing through to the point where you're making significant progress early on. Just so long as whatever you do, you start off light, focus on relearning technique, and gradually build up. The last thing you want to do is push yourself to failure on the first day back, and be unable to function for the next week.
