Working on a more fit me

Here is a little introduction:

I am 26, 5'1.5, and around 135lbs. I want to get to 115. Normally I am 125 but in the last year i have gained 10lbs. My measurements went from
34 - 27 -35.5 at my smallest to
34 - 29.5 -38.5

Crazy what 13 lbs can do to a short body!I want to remedy that and maybe get to 26inches in my waist. My weight doesnt really matter to me. I could stay 135, as long as my measurements shrink. I actually am a large framed girl and i realize Ill never be able to have that waify-teeneyweeny-female look. I was born sturdy and will always be sturdy. Many people think i weigh less than i do because of my frame. With that being said, I know i could never be 100lbs (like a friend of mine with my height) because i am not built to be that small. 115 seems like a healthy realistic number for my height and bone structure.

I went on vacation with my boyfriend at the end of last year. Looking at photos of us made me realize how chunky I was looking. I want to remedy the 10lbs before it turns to 20, 30, 40 and so on!! Part of my weight gain is maybe because Im in a comfortable, happy relationship. My boyfriend has also gained about 10lbs since we began dating. He has, however, joined me in the effort to eat better.

My best friend and I joined a gym together. I have been going 5days a week for 1hour each time (30mins weight/30mins cardio). After 7weeks I have maybe lost 4lbs ... maybe. My weight fluctuates so much it is hard to tell if actual weight is lost. My measurements have not changed, which as really discouraged me. I just discovered HIIT training (yesterday actually) so i plan to give that a shot and see how that works for me.

From my weight training, my body has begun to show more muscle definition in my arms, calves, and tummy but it is resistant to losing the layer of fat on top (and inches!). Perhaps this is because I am getting older and my metabolism is changing. Not sure. I am really keen on learning how my body works and reshaping it.

I lost 20lbs fast a few years back by basically starving myself (eating 1200 and less). I would also bike back and forth daily from school and do cardio for 45mins 4times a week. It worked, but the weight came back. My mindset then was not good. All i thought about was what i could or could not eat. A difficult move forced me to switch my mind onto other issues, and the weight came back. I am now ready to do this the correct and healthy way.

I am beginning to make healthier food choices in baby steps. I already dont crave as much as i used to and my snacks are way healthier than they once were. I try to record my food intake but its hard to stay focused. I tend to round in my head and stay in a 1200-1600 cal food range.

I am starting this diary as a way to keep myself accountable and to log any progress I make. Below is a survey to answer any other questions.

1. What is your current height and weight?
5'1.5 and 135

2. If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?
115

3. At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?
my goal of 115

4. Why do you want to lose weight?
want to be and look fit

5. What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
I eat when im stressed (get stressed often for work). I am also a glutton for sweets.

6. Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
Ive gained 10lbs in the past year and i want to stop that before it continues climbing.

7. What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
exercise/ better diet ... the standard for weight loss

8. Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?
yes. id starve myself. It worked but as soon as id reach my "goal" id start eating more normally and eventually balloon back up

9. Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?
I have done that before with success. Back when id "starve" myself, I'd count every last calorie. Ive been trying to pickup the habit of recording calorie again, but i find it much more difficult these days. My mind is not in the same mindset it was then. Back then all i thought about all day was food and what i was and wasnt going to eat. Now i think about many other things in my life and find it troublesome to have to take time out to think about what i am or am not going to eat.

10. Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?
My boyfriend cooks awesomely. I do not. I can cook cajun dishes but he does not like cajun food (weirdo) so i dont. I guess that's a good thing because his baked chicken is probably much more healthy than my gumbo (but man does my gumbo taste wonderful)

11. How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
Not often. When i do i loooove sushi and greek food. yum-yum

12. If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?
Not much. I'd still be me, but i would be more confident in my skin.

13. Do you eat when you are not hungry?
Sometimes out of habit/stress/cravings. Im am trying to stop that.

14. Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)? - not really
15. Do you hide your food or eat in secret? - no
16. Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed? - sometimes
17. Do you eat as a reward? - sometimes
18. Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer? - sadly, yes
19. What do you normally eat for a meal?
something with chicken, fish, or turkey. Love curries, sushi, and lasagnas

20. What type of snacks do you eat?
This is where i get shameful. I love sweets and i snack on sweets. It's terrible and actually i have gotten waaaay better about this these past few months.

21. In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
been going to a gym since the end of November. I go 5times a week and generally do 30mins of weights (alternating on upper and lower body each day i go) and 30mins cardio (just discovered HIIT yesterday and im giving it a go. Been doing steady paced cardio before this).

22. Where do you go for exercise?
a public gym. I own an elliptical so if i ever going tot he gym, I can do my workout at home (sans weights since i do not own weight equipment)

23. What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
I actually love doing weights. Doing cardio sucks.

Welcome to the forum! I'm jealous of your height, I'm 5'10 and hate being so tall!

That's funny. As a child i dreamt of being tall. When i would play make-believe I was always a tall girl. I also drew a lot, so every female i'd draw was tall with legs for miles.

Nobody in my family is tall so that growth spurt never happened. When i got older, i learned to embrace being short. I still wish i were taller sometimes because my limbs looks so short and dumpy to me. A friend of mine is 5'10 too and her legs are super long and fabulous!! You're jealous of my height, but I am jealous of yours! I guess the grass is always greener on the otherside eh?

wow piartektty the same thing has happened to me! A year ago, i weighed 113 lbs, had surgery and gained 5,lost 10,mainted,but then i relocated, had depression(divorce and alot of other life changing events)quit physical job, etc. Anyways, i ended up getting up to 127 and my measurments have changed dramatically. Its like a totally diffrent person, and im on a diet and workout plan hoping to get back down to 110 at the most, right now i am 121 :(. im only 5'0

angelz11 - yes being short makes weightloss so much harder. 5 extra pounds on a short body makes a large difference verses 5lbs on a tall body. Good luck on your journey!!

Today seems like a good day to update my journal. Ive been working out for 9.5weeks now. Last week i caught a terrible cold and did not work out as much, but i am right back at it! I started at 138 (fluctuating between 135-138) and ive been consistently 133 for coming onto 2 weeks now (no fluctuating upward. most fluctuating between 132-133) so i am assuming i finally lost weight. Not as much as Id like, but it's something. I feel like i put a lot more work into what seems like only a few pounds. I also think i may have lost 1/2inch in my stomach and hips. I could be wrong though. I keep second guessing if i am measuring myself with the tape correctly each time.

I finally figured out HITT training. I am on week 2 of it. The first week was a lot of trial and error. I do it on the treadmill. 45seconds running full speed to 1.15mins of walking to catch my breath. It is exhausting so i hope this works!!

I started belly dancing classes. I am super excited about it. While it's not a lot of cardio, there is a lot of subtle muscle movements so im thinking it could be good for my core. Im still working out 5times a week for an hour, so this is just an additional form of movement.

My biggest complaint is this .... Im showing stomach definition. 9weeks ago my stomach was a pooch. It did not look like the picture (i wish i had taken a before. I know it's not great yet, but it's better than where i started)....and yet, no inches lost! what's wrong with me? I cant figure it out!! If i am building muscle i should be losing fat right? So then why are inches not being lost?

Im going to continue on with the HIIT and weights and continue to track my progress. Im hoping muscle is growing underneath and all the fat will just melt away. My hips and thighs are huge. Inches just wont disappear off of them. I know you cant spot reduce but i wish there was a way to speed the process up. Oh well...
