Wish to start own line of supplements

Hi guys. I've been reading through these forums to get more information on the kind of supplements people are looking for. I'm planning to start a line of my own health supplements. Looks like diet is a big attraction and so is muscle building. Has anyone tried acai products for this?

Hi Ian - I've used acai products and learnt the hard way that I should choose a quality manufacturer who has held a good reputation. So it's good to know that you want to manufacture acai products. A truly good acai product gives me good nutrition when I'm on a diet. For the amount of calories it contains, it gives me a lot of nutritive value in terms of protein intake, fiber, the good omega 3s, vitamins and minerals. I was able to lose weight the smart way--a balanced diet and exercise.

Acai products received some bad publicity because of manufacturers wanting to ride the hype and make money. A lot of us (including me got fooled by their bad business practices). But we live and learn. I learnt the lesson of buying dietary supplements from a GMP certified company with a good business rating. But I think the acai berries are really good as a dietary supplement and a few “bad apples” won’t spoil the demand for a good acai product. I would suggest you look for a quality, GMP certified private label manufacturer. Good luck!

Acai seems to be all the rage these days, i like them also ! Use all natural ingredients in these new products and i would be slightly interested in trying it...

Hi all. I'm based in New York. Thanks for posting and letting me know Acai is the way to go! I'm really interested in private labeling products initially as it will save costs. Could anyone recommend a quality supplement manufacturer? A friend of mine suggested Nutricap Labs since they are based in New York as well. He thought they might be a more logistical choice for me, but I'm open to all kinds of suggestions right now.

Ian,
I'll tell you this...a lot of us feel that Acai berry is simply the latest fad supplement, and will quickly be replaced.

If you want to sell supplements in a sustainable way, you need to stick to tried and true supplements, not the latest craze. Otherwise you'l be stuck with warehouses of expired acai berry extract.

I'm talking standard vitamins, scientifically tested herbs, creatine, protein powders.

Not the fly by night crap I can buy anywhere online.

I don't think Acai is a fad. But I know the kind of Acai products you are talking about and those are not what I have in mind at all. The fact is that the Acai berry is a highly nutritious berry - it's got antioxidants, amino acids, fiber, vitamins, minerals, omega 3 fatty acids. It's all in its natural form. There is no scientific basis to show that it has any weight losing properties, but it does make a great nutritious snack or drink or supplement for those on a diet, those with heart problems, etc. I'm talking about partnering with a contract manufacturer who has a team of research assistants who can help me formulate a product that has scientific support using the natural nutrients of the Acai berry.

FYP :D. It's JUST A BERRY. It has antioxidants, no doubt. Those are great. So do blueberries, so do raspberries, so does chocolate, so does coffee. It's not a miracle fruit.

^^ This. Not only will you get sucked into all that craze, but you won't be respected at all, at least not by anything who knows what they're talking about. However, the people who dont know what they're talking about would be your best customers, and that's precisely why I could never run a supplement company.

You almost have to lie to have big time success, because you can't stay on your feet selling protein, creatine, fish oil, multi vitamins, maybe an amino acid supp, and other vitamins. And that's really the only things that I feel are safe and effective. But my guess is you wouldn't do that, and it probably wouldn't be a good idea from a business perspective. In my eyes, you can't win. Maybe that's just me.

I can see there's a variety of opinions about the Acai berry - and btw - freeze dried berries do hold the maximum nutrition. Freeze-dried acai berries are the best kind to use. I've done some hw on nutraceutical manufacturers and have shortlisted a few here—Nutricap Labs, Vita-tech, United Pharma, Ma'at Nutritionals and PBM Contracting. Has anyone had any experience working with any of these companies?

Hi Ian – I wanted to let you know that I have worked with Nutricap Labs. Two years ago, I did a couple of products with them – one of them was Acai. My sales rep told me, back then, that Acai has rich antioxidant content and a rich nutritional profile and advised me to highlight these advantages of the Acai berry. I did – and I’m glad I did! My Acai products survived the bad hype. It’s good to stick with a scientific formula – and advertise purely on the basis of that scientific support. That’s what I liked about Nutricap Labs. They manufacture scientifically-based formulas that are of the highest quality. This way, you know you have safe product that you can be proud to stand behind.

dude, hes right. The acai berry's nutritional value isnt anything extroardinary. Its just a fad. People beleive that because it came from some mystical jungle location that it's PACKED with anti-oxidants and whatever else. The truth is a lot of the acai berries come from the US and its no better for you than your standard blueberry.

acai berry isnt really a sports related supplement, its simply a nutritious berry with strong antioxident properties.

their are so many dud acai products out their, and the fad marketing really gets to me. But generally freeze dried is what your looking for. Same goes for royal jelly it needs to be freeze dried.

Fred, thanks for your post. I agree with you about Acai. I hear you about Nutricap Labs. I’ve been looking at them myself and have received a reasonable quote from them. Powerlifer – you’re right. The freeze-dried process does maximize the retention of nutrients. I would like to hear from anyone who has used Nutricap Labs or any other quality supplement manufacturer. Thanks guys, for taking time to post.

I have had several conversations with the reps at Nutricap Labs. They have come up with some good suggestions combining acai berries with other effective ingredients. However, I would still like to hear from anyone who has had any experience working with Nutricap Labs.
