Will this help me get started?

I'm really motivated to shed a few pounds right now!

I've decided to cutout soda, and any 'bad' drinks from my diet completely, leaving only water, natural fruit juices and low fat milk.

As for exercising, I've decided I will walk at the park for about 2 hours per day on weekends and during summer. During the week, I will walk for one hour per day when I can.

As far as food goes, I've decided to just make healthier choices, and when it comes to fast food (the good stuff ;P) I'll cut back.

Does anybody think this will help me get rid of a few extra pounds?

Yes, that will help. Possibly. If you don't make up for the missing pop by adding in an equal number of calories from "healthy" food. The fruit juice is not a real good choice either. It's sugar water like the pop, but with a few vitamins. The fruit itself is better than the juice.

Yeah, fruit juice is heavy in sugar usually. It is healthy, but calorie wise it's equal to soda if not greater. Eight ounces in the morning is good though, gives you a nice energy boost. Milk is the same, has its calories, but you can enjoy it a little more because its more substantial in nutrients (protein, fat, carbs).

Fruit is good for you, though. A lot of fiber and vitamins and usually a good piece of fruit is under 100 calories.

Welcome John.

To simply answer your question...I would say yes. Those things you choose to do will help you lose weight.

But I think you have one important thing that will thing be even more productive in this weight loss thingy. And that is motivation. You sound determined to make those changes. Thats what will get you started, and keep you thinking about losing weight. And as long as its in your mind, you'll make conscious healthy decisions and stay interested and focused.

Good luck and keep your progress posted. We're rootin' for ya!

To lose weight, you need to take in less calories than you body needs. It cannot be done incrementally. You need to look at your overall calorie intake and not just at a few things piecemeal. If you need help you need to state your details - weight, height, age, gender, total calories intake per day.
