Will gym classes do the trick?

I've been going to various gym classes every other day. These classes are tough for me and I struggle to keep up so I feel a get a really good workout from them and my muscles do hurt the day after.

Do you think I need to add a weight lifting regiment in addition to my gym classes?

I'm wondering because I do want to maximise how much weight I can lose healthily.

I would recommend to continue doing the classes like you are. Here in a week or two your body should start getting used to the classes, and the soreness will likely go away. At that point I would gradually input weights into your workout.

When you do input weights, do a full-body workout two days a week.

Getting in shape and losing wight is not a sprint, it's a marathon. Take it slow to begin with and then ramp things up as your body adapts.

check out the stickies here on strength training. no reason why you couldn't start now. You'll be sore, but its only bad the first week or two, then its hardly anything if at all.

If the classes are making you push yourself, then there's no reason you shouldn't continue them. Once you start feeling a comfort level in those classes, do check out the weight lifting sticky posts in the exercise forum. Thre are a lot of benefits to lifting weights - but you don't have to start it all at once! :)

Thanks everyone! Maybe I'll do classes every other day and weights in between and I'll make sure I work out the muscles that aren't hurting from the day before. My abs, bum and thighs do hurt after the classes!
