Hey. My name's Tim. I'm 35 years old and a diabetic. Over the past few years... I've put on some extra weight. "Alteredimage" (a frequent user of the site) is my daughter.... she talked me into this.

I'd like to lose about 60lbs within the next six months. I don't really know how I'm going to go about it, so any suggestions or advice would be welcomed and much appreciated.

Hi Daddy! Lol. I know you think this is silly, but no matter what you say the support really does help. It makes it easier when you have a group of people in similar situations cheering you on.

LOVE!!

You've made a good choice, Tim. AI is spot on with the support really helping - even on a bad day the support on here can help you see that silver lining hidden away behind the cloud.

Advice? Find yourself a diet you're comfortable with and go for it! Simple as, really

Well, okay, not as simple as writing it down maybe, but you get the idea :p :D

Welcome to the forum. Keep us posted on your progress :)

Welcome to the Forum! I agree with Stan... find a diet or lifestyle change that you can work with. For me, I count calories, and walk 2 miles a day. Everyone does things differently. It might help to read other diaries and steal from those!

Welcome and good luck.

I've been reading a lot about this whole counting of the calories thing....

3500 calories= 1 pound.

3500 divided by 7(days of the week)= 500

So I'm thinkin if you cut the calories required to mantain your current weight by 500, you should be able to lose 1 to 2 pounds a week. And that of course could vary with any exercise incorporated, etc.

So I'm thinking you should try eatin a diet of about 2000 calories to start out with, and see how that works for you.

welcome and good luck!
for me, having support is really important, you'll get a lot of support from the people here and from your daughter it seems, as well :)

Hi Tim,
Welcome to the forum, and good for Jen for pointing you in the right direction!

Thanks you for all the encouragement and support. Hopefully, with the help of this forum, it will give me the initiative I need to lose the extra weight I've added on over the past few years.

I'd also like to thank everyone for the encouragemnt and support you have shown my daughter. She has almost reached her goal and will be there before she knows it.

Welcome to WLF. Are you controlling your diabetes or is it controlling you ??

You being a fellow diabetic are well aware of the stresses of eating a proper diet and keeping your sugar under control.

It's harder sometimes than it is others. In my case, I really just need to start taking control of it 100% instead of 75%.

Sadly, I didn't take my diabetes seriously for the first 3 years. It's amazing how that disease will punish the body for neglecting it. I can only feel better now that I finally took it seriously and the improvements are like night and day.

I think it's great Jen has a family member working with her and visa versa towards a common goal of weight reduction. I can only image the 'go it alone' way is a tough route for anyone.

I see many posters on here slamming their parents for not participating in their children's weight problems, it kinda makes me sad to read those post because some of them are more than likely true. I hope you two work together everyday.

Onward and upward Tim.
