Wife's trouble losing weight

My wife is right at 23 years old, 5'8" or so, and weighs right at 200 lbs.... she's been working her butt off for several months, and the only time she's lost weight was a week when she was sick sick sick... she lost 9 lbs that week... now that she's healthy again she gained all the weight back... she does cardio 2-3 times a week, walking and jogging both... she also does the billy blanks boot camp thing.... our diets probably aren't the best but I got a feeling that her being hypoglycemic might be really hurting her chances with how we eat sometimes.... Besides a change in diet, which I know we need to do and I'm reading books on healthy diets for hypoglycemics, anyone have anymore advice? She's VERY discouraged right now and swears she's done working out to try to lose weight and is going to be 300 lbs by this time next year... help a loving husband! :(

awww thats sweet.

Well, it sounds like she's getting in enough excersize. How much water are you drinking?? Also, I dot' know much about hypo...but a good balanced diet is key! You can excersize all day but if your eating cake everynight and pizza for dinner, your not going to get far.

Maybe she should see a nutritionalist? Just support her and tell her not to give up!!! True success is falling 9 times and getting up 10!

Thanks for the nice response.... I'm active duty military, and we're going to go to the health and wellness center either next week or the week after to talk to a diet tech and some lady that has a doctorate in exercise or somethin crazy, and see if we can get her on a good routine and a good diet.... :)

Awesome, paul! Sounds like an easy fix for a few extra lbs over the course of a year.... we've decided against the HAWC on base.... a friend of my wifes had the exact same blood sugar issues she does and it turned out to be an insulin resistance and a thyroid issue, and since the base doctors cant see anyone within a 2 week time span because theres like 3 doctors for 5000+ people, we're going to go downtown to see the lady her friend recommended and get something set up that way.... ;)

In my personal experience, it is very hard to loose on exercise alone. Exercise makes women hungrier, and conciously or unconciously, you end up eating more. It is very easy to eat extra 100-200 calories and negate all the calorie-burning achieved through exercise. However, exercise is a very good part of a weight loss plan, so please tell your wife not to give up. What helped me is writing down everything I eat and counting total calories I eat for the day. If she follows 1200-1500 calorie diet, she will loose weight. It does not have to be super-healthy, but healthier foods tend to fill us up without packing in too many calories. With 1200 calorie diet, you can eat anything, just smaller portions, for example, instead of eating 2 pieces of pizza for lunch, have to eat only 1 to stay within calorie range for the day.

Good luck!

I would go to a doctor or a nutritionist and get her hypoglycemia/ possible endocrine problems sorted out first! Figure out if she has to follow a special diet. Then you can set a calorie range!

Hi :D I am hypoglecemic also. It isn't fun nor is it easy to change everything you've known as "normal" eating. I had to switch to 100% whole grain EVERYTHING. Pasta, breads, rices, etc. if its white I don't eat it. That helped a lot. Also, I had to increase the LOWFAT protein to stabalize my blood sugar. ANytime I eat fruit or carbs I have to balance it with protein. Also, the exercise is great! After working out I have a piece of fruit with a bit of nuts or meat (again, balancing carbs with protein). Refined sugars are a no-no for me except on rare occassions. One thing that made a BIG difference for me was cutting out carbs ONLY AT NIGHT. I eat carbs throughout the day, but not at night. I only have LOW FAT protein and a green veggie. Hope this helps. Its what has worked for me for so long but every situation is different
