Why do I go off my diets?!

I posted on here awhile ago, lost weight...went off the diet & gained it back. So, again I have been dieting for 3 months, and lost 25 lbs. now. This last week has been pure hell! It has been easy sticking to my diet, until now- I want to eat everything in sight! I don't know what to do or how to get my motivation back! People are finally noticing, and I'm fitting back into my 'skinny' pants, I should have all the motivation in the world-but i don't right now. I was hoping for some help from people on here, which have been a huge motivation for me! Anyone been in the same situation, or have any words of wisdom would be great right now!

It's either physiological, psychological or a combination of the two.

Physiological is easy to troubleshoot so let's start there.

What are your stats and how are you going about your weight loss plan?

I'm 5'3 and I weigh 198 right now, goal is 160 or lower...I eat a Instant breakfast in the morning, lunch is some plain rice chex & cashew and dinner is a normal meal. Which was going well, it's just this last week i've felt so deprived, i feel hungier than ever....

Hello. Honestly I think I would feel hungry too with your daily meals. Do you count calories or track points or anything like that? Just because you're on a "diet" doesn't mean you have to deprive yourself which will force you to quit.

You might check out the sticky threads on Nutrition for some helpful tips that will keep you deprivation free and on track. And I am also sure that whatever Steve has to say will be great advice... hes the man!

Yea, I agree. I'd be miserable if that were my diet. The diet *worked* just as any other would that is triggering a caloric deficit. But the larger the deficit is not the better the deficit. I'd be interested in seeing what your calories and macros look like, which can be calculated relatively easily using something like . It's free and would be worth your time in signing up and using it.

Depriving your body of calories and nutrients is usually going to send 'alarms' and your adherence will be damn near impossible.

How are you at writing? or how would you feel about it? I have to journal my food feelings in a book. I know I need daily tiny kicks to keep me on track. I sometimes sabotage myself (if Im honest) because I have a fear of succeeding. Ive quit soo many times, always making excuses even tiny one lol, but I had to realize there really is something deeper keeping me from doing this head on. lol Long story short seeing all my issues on paper in front of me asking myself honest questions (even to the point of pissing myself off) and seeking solutions for ME not anyone else or trying to please anyone has really helped me stay on top of things so far. My divorce was final 7 months ago, that really helped me put things n perspective too. When it comes down to it its all about you, how you want to get to where you're going and your formula to win. I dunno, lol it may sound stupid... it works for me. And have you tried different nutrition meal plans? give you more variety if boredom is your problem.

i think you are going at it in the wrong way, losing weight, getting fit and all. They are life changing things that you do.
You don't try to lose weight, you change a life style.

Trust me get a personal trainer for at least 1 month, you'll spend £100 and you'll benefit from new training and inspiration.

I get my inspiration straight of this forum.

You just have to keep at it. ATM i am addicted to going to the gym, If i don't go I feel pissed off, stressed, basically in a bad mood.
When I go and do a real! work out I feel refreshed and I feel my body pumping. Try upping your gear a tad bit.

Trainers in my area are pretty expensive. You're looking at 50-80 bucks a session.

Reasonable depends on the budget I suppose. If you're using a trainer to simply show you the ropes, that can be done in a handful of sessions. But 2-3 sessions per week for an extended period of time is out of most people's budgets at the moment I would expect.

That's 400 - 600 outflow per month.

Worth it?

Sure, if it's a quality trainer.

Still doesn't mean it's affordable to most.

Insurance coverage would be nice, wouldn't it!?

Success stories dont mean much to me. What he does for someone else doesnt mean it will work for me. I believe a mini-interview (for lack of better term) will work better. You can get a lot more info from that.

I beleive that Steve has compiled a list of questions to ask for another thread.

Matt

the thing is that its hard to identify quality trainer unless you ask for a portofolio of success stories.

And even then it doesn't tell you a whole lot. B&As are easy to come by. And they don't tell you a whole heck of a lot besides weight loss.

In my area, I can actually tell you it's impossible b/c none exist.

I agree with you.

That's why Gordy and I don't think we're putting B&As on our website. It's what every trainer does and we don't want to be every trainer. I like my advice to speak for itself and don't need a bunch of teeny boppers seeing pictures and being their 'trigger' to sign up with me. I'd rather have fewer clients and grow by word of mouth like I always have.

Having a good base of knowledge provided to you by something like this forum before going into interview a potential trainer is a great start, that's for sure.

Thank you all for your support! Well, everyone but the lostground person...I have been making alot of changes in the past 6 months for everything in my life. So, I'm not sure why that person felt the need to say I'm going about things in the wrong way, when they have no idea what they are talking about. Just wanted to clear that up. But, anyways! I appreciate all of the posts from you all. Yeah, I think I was depriving myself, but at the time when I was doing it, I didn't really feel deprived....I guess it just added up all that time...But, I have started eating healthier & more balanced meals, and I ordered the Fittv channel, which is fantastic! I love Power Body Sculpt with Gilad, I was quite sore for this first week! I work full-time & have 2 kids so I am not going to be away from the kids for however long to go to the gym. So, this way they can work out with me, which I love. Thanks to everyone that posted & feel free to comment if you want again!

Pictures don't do anything for me when it comes to before and afters -However what really peaked my interest with Gordy (other than the babe factor and the FOS factor too) is on his blog entry where he talks about his client/friend that went to Hawaii with him.. The client went thru a fairly dramatic change both appearance wise but especially conditioning wise.

Anyone can lose weight... you dont need a trainer for that -however the total change in conditioning in a person - that's a skill... not to take anything away from the client because that takes some amount of determination to go thru that self overhaul... but pictures not so much but the story so much -though testemonials are fake too often so I'mnot sure how you deal with that.

and to the oriiginal question- people go off their diets because they are on a diet -you can't go off a lifestyle chage.. .so make the changes gradually andthere's no going backwards

And that's why we'll most likely have client blogs down the road. So they can tell their tales.
