Why Carbs are the new diet craze

diets seem to go in cycles...

High carb/low fat diets have been around forever -

you probably aren't old enough to remember Susan Powters Stop the Insanity infomercial (I lost 80lbs on the diet -along with my hair and good skin from high carb/no fat low protein.. .:D

Dean Ornish's Eat More Weigh Less - also stressed the importance of complex carbohydrates.. and very low fat intake..
 
OMG! Susan Powter. I used to have a VHS excersise tape of hers. LOL!

I don't follow those carb fads. I know, from experience, that if I eat complex carbs I lose weight. If it works for anyone else, I wouldn't know.
 
You know, when you consider there's only 3 macro nutrients, it's incredible the number of way they can keep combining them to come up with something supposedly new.

One thing that works incredibly well, but beyond the scope of this discussion, is cycling carbs.

The "Cheat to Lose Diet" by Joel Marion is a decent read if you come across it that touches on this subject.
 
I'm a fan of carb cycling as well. Especially as you near your physique goals.
 
I can get how resistance starch can help stop hunger - I always find carbs so heavy. It's crazy about the potatoes though, as they tend to always be found on the don't eat list. I guess as long as they aren't deep fried - like we find french fries, and how a lot of people like their potatoes then it makes sense.
 
High carb, low carb, high protein, low protein, high fat, low fat....whatever. I hate how misinformation is shoved down the public's throats.

My mom used to do some awful banana, broth, lettuce, tomato, beef, skim milk diet when I was a kid. Like, you could eat bananas all day, and then the next day you could eat beef all day, and then next day you could eat lettuce and skim milk all day. But on banana days you couldn't eat beef. And each day you could eat as much broth as you wanted. Barf. No wonder she's been yo-yoing her whole life.
 
Yeah I have always been a believer that carbs are a great source of energy as long as you are doing whole grain.
