Why Am I Gaining Weight So Quickly?

I've been on my weight loss journey for a year.
My goal of 160lbs is in spitting distance.

But I have a serious question. Why have I gained so much in the course of 9 hours?
Daily, I get out of bed, use the bathroom and weigh myself, all before I eat breakfast.
Please take a look at the following photos. The ones in the pink boxers were taken at 10 am this morning. The ones in the black shorts were taken at 7:45 pm.
Clearly there has been some substantial weight gain. So I will explain my day. I woke up, weighed in and took the pics with the pink boxers.
I ate a cup of yogurt, toast and milk (skim of course).
Then I drove over to my mother's house and did yard work.
Then at about 3pm, I went to a diner and had french toast and hash browns and pink lemonade. Then I came home, putzed around a little bit, then I drank a bunch of water, went for my jog, then got back and, drank more water then did sit ups and leg lifts.

At 10 am.

At 7pm

I want to say that this weight gain is due to water retention. Hopefully that is it and if so, How do I reduce it?

Ok, first of all, I'm not seeing this "substantial weight gain" that you're talking about.

However, that said, your bodyweight can vary by anywhere from 2-10 lbs over the course of the day.

Eating something high in sodium can cause you to retain water or bloat. Hard physical exercise can cause your muscles to swell up. Some people are sensitive to certain foods containing gluten or wheat or even just regular carbs and that can cause water retention and bloat.

Diner food is notoriously high in sodium ... I suspect you're retaining water.

The way to get it to stop is ( a ) pay closer attention to your sodium intake and ( b ) drink lots of water to flush out the sodium you've put in your body.

^ I agree with Kara

:iagree: I am sorry but you look exactly the same in both sets of pictures to me. Maybe you just feel like you gained weight because of what you ate or something. Also, that is why you can't weigh yourself everyday and take that number really seriously. One day I woke up and was at 165 and ate some cereal and had a glass of water and I was suddenly 167... also, one time my weight said I had gained about 6 pounds, it was impossible since I was in my calorie range and exercising, the culprit? I had a lot of sodium the day before, and so I ate the right range of sodium that whole day and low and behold the next day I was really 7 pounds down.

Yeah, I don't see any weight gain either, the pics all look exactly the same to me. Honestly, if you do see a "significant weight gain" there, you might have a distorted image of your body and you'll want to be careful of that.

That aside, if you feel you are puffier at the end of the day, that's most likely water retention. It's not fat, you don't have to stress over it. I've had my weight go up 2 pounds in 15 minutes, when I didn't even eat, drink, change clothes, exercise, anything that might have caused a fluctuation. (my scale hates me, I swear)

Last Sunday I felt funny, and weighed myself twice for some strange reason. I weighed almost 5 lbs more over the course of 10 hours. I knew something was wrong.
Next day I had the worst sore throat of my life and the day following, I was diagnosed with strep throat.

So I think the body moderates and adjusts sometimes to defend itself. (I wish it would have told me what was coming!!!! lol)

ps. I'm all better now :)

I honestly don't see any difference in the pictures as well. A lot of people say you should only weigh-in once a week. But, I think everyday is fine as long as you do it at the same time each day (first thing after restroom when waking up). You will most likely wake up the next day and discover you are still right on track.

I cannot see much difference at all. we all fluctuate in weight during the course of the day. Some of us are sensitive to some foods and dont realise it so we can feel and sometimes look slightly swollen.just have to watch out and see if there is a link.
It also sounds like you have a fair amount of anxiety involved with your weightloss.....when we are anxious we tend to draw the very thing we are anxious about.Any weightloss program can be supercharged, if you also go on a mental diet.....take a look at http://weight-loss.fitness.com it has really helped me.
